Kemper updates

  • Certainly not "cheap"

From my perspective it is one of cheapest pieces for hi-quality equipment per year of usage I ever used. Given that KPA completely cured my GAS my Toaster already costs me on average ~$250 per year (clocking 8 years now - this is also known as ~$20 / month) and it is getting cheaper every year while gaining excellent new features every now and then. It requires big one-time investment but in a long run it is dirt cheap, IMHO.

  • Yes, you are right. If kemper announces to stop updating the firmware, I can guarantee that kemper's product sales will immediately fall to the bottom. People will choose to buy them in the second-hand market.

The thing is, even if updates stopped today forever, the device as it is now is still one of the best values in the market based solely on sound. It would remain relevant for a long time to come. People still buy Access synths new without hesitation and those haven't received an update in...? When I first purchased the toaster, much of today's functionality was not added yet and it was worth every penny in its core function. All the updates and add-ons since then are just extra gravy. I don't think new sales would drop because of a lack of foreseeable expansion, especially when the price isn't that high to begin with.

Absolutely. Factoring in price vs usable longevity I'd say the kemper is undervalued at its current price.

You can let Kemper try your idea in 2024, where there are strong competitors everywhere.

  • Since I have this wonderful tool, there have been so many updates,

I´ve purchaised my Kemper, to a time where even the performance mode wasn´t available then. It was delivered by an update. So many updates followed since then, sometimes with functions noone ever dreamed about before (e.g. the Morph function) and CK and his team never stopped to advance their product. They found new toys to improve it (Remote, Kabinet/Kone) or added new form factors (Rack, Stage) and even gave in to the desire of many of us and added the player and never stopped to support the Kemper product no#1.

Some time ago (and I mean a long time ago) I thought it was the best purchase i ever had and it can do all i need from an guitar amp/processor and more.

Now it can do so much more and it had become better than I have dreamed (liquid profiling) so for me it is time to say thank you Mr. Kemper!

I will enjoy every new update that will come and I am curious what brilliant ideas will follow, but for me it isn´t self-evident.

This is also the reason why I will choose to join the Kemper camp this year.I am a new user attracted by Kemper's free firmware updates:D

Changed the title of the thread from “kemper updates” to “Kemper updates”.

    Welcome to the group!

While the features are a fantastic reason to want a Kemper, I would also point out that of all the digital amp devices out there, I consider the Kemper to be (by far) the MOST STABLE. This is true from every release. No tonal changes to your rigs, no gig threatening instability problems.... nothing. You just use it and it works ..... and works ..... and works.

  • It’s been said before, but I find that focusing on all the great stuff I can already do with my Kemper is a more satisfying approach than longing for updates I’d like but don’t have.

It’s remarkable really that Kemper is still supporting such relatively old hardware, most companies would have replaced the original Kemper with later versions, abandoning updates for the old Kempers and forcing people to buy new hardware each time. Or forcing people to pay for new software. That we still get free updates at all is a bonus, even if there’s a delay.

I agree there has been many new latest greatest Fractal and Line 6 things that made the old stuff "obsolete" While Kempers are still going strong all over pro stages. We're just spoiled by the usual new goodies we always got regularly.

  • I've been wanting the part where they fixed the rig volume knob to 12:00. I always laugh when people talk about Kemper being "old" and wanting a Kemper II etc. Many people just need to have the latest greatest before you do so they can tell you how great it is compared to the "old crap" that you have. Like the people that have to be the first to see a movie that comes out.

I remember when the ADA preamp came out. Expensive, but everyone raved about how amazing they were. A few years later everyone had them and they were "80s" sounding and I had to beg to sell mine for for $75.00. Now since they are more rare they are super great again and go For $800.00+.

I look at it this way, few people think about getting rid of their "old" 68 Plexi because it doesn't have a touch screen or integrate with the latest Omnivex cosmic bitrate inverter using a Linux operating system. "New" units are still trying their best to compare to amps like this. Great sounding can never be "old".

The Kemper has already saved me over 5x what it cost me. I used to spend around $2,000.00-$4,000.00 a year with my GAS addiction, but the Kemper has all but put out that fire. Once in a while I'll get the urge to buy maybe an an old JTM, DSL40, Soldano or tweed blues Jr. but then I realize it would just be a novelty I'd likely sell like I did my ENGL, EVH and Blackstar amps that I found the Kemper could reproduce more consistently than the "real thing". I kinda miss having G.A.S. but now I can spend money on things like the light bill and fast food.

  • I wasn't sure when I purchased a kemper if I would like it enough or not. But I was so tired of all ampsims and desperate after something better. I could never get any good sound out of the ampsims. No matter what IR I used either. I hadn't used a real amp for a long time. So when I finally got my kemper from thomann, becuase no one sold any kemper yet in Sweden, it was so new then. So I started the kemper and connected the guitar and.....yes yes yes! Finally something that sounds like a real amp. I haven't regretted the purchase and still free updates after so long time. Maybe the kemper will survive me?

I had one of those ADA's along with a bunch of other wonder gear. I had some great tube amps as well. As you said, I get more consistently good tone with Kemper across a MUCH greater range of amp tones than I could ever attain with any other rig I ever had. I used to change my rig up every few years. Have a great fender rig going on? You miss the grit of a Marshal. Have a Marshal, can't get a heavy sound like you need with a Mesa. Have a Mesa, miss the clean tones of the fender ;).

Have a Kemper, save your back and have it all :).

I am not sure at this point if I will ever change my rig again. Had my KPA Rack since 2013. Longest running rig of my life and I am 58. Been playing since I was 15 ..... so that is quite a few rigs!

I may miss having GAS, but my wallet and my wife don't!

I definitely agree with you. If you calculate how much money had to be put into new Fractals, just because the old ones were no longer updated, Kemper saved, and still saves musicians a lot of money. If anyone has a problem with this, there are other products, go to them. I am grateful to CK that my guitar plays fantastically and that I don't have to buy new expensive equipment.

  • Hi everyone, correct me if I'm wrong - in all player hype, not a single mention of the much anticipated updates to tremolo & modulation effects. Also high on my personal wish list, and promised long ago: extra liquids. What can when expect you think, how soon?
