Is it possible for Kempers (non-powered) to have a break in period? I just got a hold of a second unit and when comparing them on identical settings the newer one sounds just a tad more boxy than the first one. I'm wondering if it just sounds like that because it's new and hasn't been played as much as the older unit.
Do Kempers have a break in period?

Hi @saxbell68,
Being a fully digital device, I really doubt it. -
Kemper no, users yes

Let me rephrase the question. Has anyone who owns two Kempers noticed a slight difference in sound from unit to unit?
-
Check your output settings
-
Just changing your listening position an inch has an impact in sound. Have you moved your speakers?
-
All of the settings are identical. Same version OS. They're sitting side by side. Using the same XLR going to the same channel in my studio rack. Just swapping them back and forth. They sound almost identical but the newer has slightly more mids.

check Clean Sense (no difference in tone, don't even slight differences in volume can mess with the perception)
check Pure Cab (the global one)
check the Output EQhth

make sure the valves have warmed up inside first lol

... and pour some beer over it...

That should definitely do the trick. Afterwards they will sound exactly identical: broken

Saxbell, in case it's not clear, there's definitely no break-in period.
If one unit were 20 years old and had been left switched on for extended periods, and the other brand-new, I suppose it's conceivable that the output caps, having been dried out a little on the old unit, could contribute to its having a somewhat thinner / harsher sound when compared with the new one.
This clearly isn't the case 'though, so I suggest you try to be patient, difficult as it may be, and continue to dig into the various settings until you find an anomaly.
Good luck man.

Did you pull the plastic off of the front of the screen

(This is a serious suggestion - not a joke)
When comparing tone (etc) settings, make sure they look absolutely identical.
0.0 and +0.0 and -0.0 are not the same exact setting.

yeah, bits and bytes sound better the more are played.
play it hard for a couple of days , and report back

Sorry I couldn't help it What about resetting all system settings after making a backup? Copy the backup from the good sounding kemper to the other one after all system settings are reset.

Thanks for the replies. The main output default volume was 0.2 dB different from the old unit from the factory. It was totally messing with my ears. I appreciate all of the help.

mine has one every 30 days.... lol

Congrats to your bat ears.

Lol. I'm more concerned that I perceived it as mids. High end hearing loss is definitely creeping up on me.
