Listening - a little late to the party as always - to the "new" steve vai record.
and i checked the rig exchange: no sitar sound to be found.
i need it for an intro and won't buy the vg of roland although it is nice.
something like the sound of the black album would suffice. anyone in the know how
to achive this sound?

Get yourself a James Tyler Variax guitar, I've got one and it has a great sitar sound amongst the 24 other awesome guitar profiles. Believe it or not it really does sound great, very versatile. I play it to get the sounds my Les Paul or PRS can not achieve. Look it up.

EHX Ravish Sitar sounds great, even does drone notes with a freeze like function. Can also get some cool synth tones. Check out the effectology demo on youtube. Nothing even close on the market other than perhaps triggering samples f the real deal.

A JTV with a Ravish Sitar is lots of fun!

Is it even possible to provide sitar profiles? Or do you guys want to profile stompboxes that emulate sitars?

Profiling doesn't work that way. It's not like sampling in which you can record anything and play it back. The profiling process measures a system's response to test signals and sets parameters of an predefined algorithm to emulate the response. You can't just profile any effect and expect it to work as the profiling process is expecting something amp like. You might be able to get some sitar-ish type sounds using one of the wave shapers. But really, it's not going to sound like the vid below.

We have provided more information on this in our privacy policy. The real question is how often will you really use the sound and how close do you need to get? Here's an example of a fretless guitar being performed like a sitar, but you can do similar things on electric with bends to get a sitar-ish kinda thing happening. Pretty convincing eh? Of course context is everything.

exactly. my cubase has a decent sitar sample. have to play it with the keyboard then , but thanks anyway -
There's a solution...don't listen to Steve Vai records.

or buy a sitar?

Is that a rig? If so - you just saved me a bunch of time:)
I'm doing an oldies gig with some friends of mine next month, and it would be perfect for some of those '60s songs.
I was going to suggest in this thread (and then try it myself):
A Clean amp
Buzzy light fuzz
EQ with boosted upper mids and treble, with a + ducking amount to make it touch sensitive.- and also considered the option of "drone strings" similar to your "All E" harmony rig

Do I hear a Shaper in the attack?

Do I hear a Shaper in the attack?
nope.
nothing too fancy about it really, it uses the micropitch effect.

My compliments! It sounds great
From Freda Payne to Steve Vai. That's a versatile sound.

Wow Don!
This sounds incredible!! -
waiting for that upload, don. as an effect like in this cult song:
(you used the cover of the best IMHO vaitunes song, another )
but if you are looking for the real thing all of those sounds are way to "reverby" , like you
are standing in the choir of st.paul cathedral. this one here is the best i could find.
buying on ebay would be an option, if i had the money and the place between 6 guitars and 4 amps. -
