Hi All,
A little humor in the title, but as guy who went from the Strymon Iridium to a Headrush, to a Kemper Rack, I’m drowning a bit as I try and wrap my head around this unit.
For example, I just wanted to build a rig when I opened it up and turned it on. Not easy or intuitive, I’m still not sure how, in fact. Once I installed rig manager though, I was able to find some good tones.
In any case, I’m on day 3 with it and I can’t wait to profile some amps and create some great music.
In the space of digital Amps, the KPA is relatively straight forward so don;t go into it thinking its inherently complex. Its not. Its as complex as you want to go.
Some base suggestions:
1) Use RM to navigate and find your sounds, this is easier than using the unit plus you can access the rig exchange. Double click on a rig to load it, play, save if you like it. Suggest find sounds you like and save them. Don't try to make a bad sound good and look for amps you like. I came from ENGL amps so unsurprisingly I went for that sound
2) Performance mode is for organizing your rigs, mainly for live so find your sounds first and then organize
3) The layout shows pre and post effects with the Amp block in the middle - I never realised that!
4) Don't worry or bother about IR's. The rigs are complete amps
5) Work out how you want to set it up and then we can help with any questions that aren;t obvious.
Hello and welcome ! take your time..but learn how to save cabs soon, whenever you find a cab you like save it, the cabs are the key to good sounds..

The learning curve is pretty quick on a Kemper. I suggest you keep the manual handy at all times (at least for the first year) and watch all the video tutorials...

I’m drowning a bit as I try and wrap my head around this unit.
Only go as deep as you need to for the time being.
You could start with just the amp and cab, tweaking the amp parameters (they're great). Then slowly add the pedal/s you might normally use before the amp and finally the post-amp time-based FX.
Remember, signal flow is left-to-right and everything's logically-laid-out.

I can recommend getting a kabinet, powered ideally (if your unit is non powered). It makes getting good sounds much easier in my experience.

In my opinion this is very important. If someone had explained it to me before, it would have saved me a lot of work hahaha??
the "definition" parameter in the amp section varies the tone a lot, try it. But as you have been told, first look for a profile that is close to what you are looking for.

Thank you for all the thoughtful responses. I’ve been on vacation this week so have spent nearly every waking moment with it.
The rig manager software seems pretty straightforward. I was able to find a bunch of amp tones I like plus I have a couple years of IRs. The other modelers (Headrush, Strymon) seem dependent on good IRs. The Kemper seems less so.
I’ve got browser mode figured and I’ll be working on performance mode this weekend.

Personally I think IR's are a rabbit hole on the KPA.
I would initially avoid as they are not necessary IMO.
Welcome and good luck with your tone and your own profiles! Should not be difficult to get good immediate results, even with the Stock profiles, but taste differs, of course. Personally I recomend Michael Britt.
