thinking of putting 2 kemper kones into a seismic empty 2x12. Anyone tried this. Will there be any problems?

Hi
I’m new here and quite new with my Stage and I love it!
A week ago I bought two Kones and run them in stereo, and love them aswell. I omly use them at home in my studio
I have one issue.
For some rigs I experience the tone is better with the Kone ON and the speaker OFF. That is said by Tonejunkie aswell.
That means the Kone is running in FRFR mode but use the Cab from the Rig .
This works well BUT it is not possible to save per Rig.
I would like to see that in the next Update.
Keep on Kempering!?Mike

ckemper I too, think the suggestion above WOULD be a good feature....

Aren’t Output settings “per Rig” if you unlock it?

Um.... good question.... I didn’t think so, and my hunch was seconded by Miktan ‘s comment/suggestion.
But if you think they are, I’ll be glad to double check.
Thanks,
N

No.
the output section is always global. -
I received my kabinet Friday from Sweetwater and I think I’ve got something set wrong perhaps. I’ve been using it in frfr mode and all my profiles (tone junkie, Britt and Topjimi) all sound like there is a blanket over the speaker. No highs or mids and just generally dark sounding . The speaker imprints behave the same way.
I put the kabinet on chair and dimed out the rig volume and this helped a lot along with tweaking the definition on the profile.
Any settings I need change?
Previously, I had been running my toaster through a Metropoulos 2x12 loaded with M75 Creambacks. -
Chris4189 .... I can’t help with the question at hand, other than are you sure you have the profile’s cabinet disabled in the global setting (in OUTPUT)?
But... I’m curious if there’s something ‘special/different’ with the batch(es) Sweetwater got from Kemper.
Does yours have the piping around the grill? (See thread: New Kemper Kabinet - Odd Question (Grill Piping?))

No piping.

No.
the output section is always global.Output section has the option to store settings. Is there any way to recall an output setting from the Remote or through MIDI?

No - Output Settings recall must be done manually.

Hello all, in case anyone is curious, here's the TS parameters for the Kone as measured by a Dayton Audio DATS V3 analyzer.Kemper Kone TS param 09_28_20.pdf

Thanks for sharing. Couple of Q's:
So what are the implications of the data for enclosures etc? How was it mic'ed up for the test?

There were no mics used. The DATS system is a measurement tool\software combination that analyzes the driver in free air. The only additional item was a calibrated weight to calculate Vas.

BTW, for giggles I did plug the measured TS parameters into a box designer program, with estimated\measured dimensions of the Kabinet. Here's the info for that paper exercise (again no mics used). Looks like 3dB lower cutoff of 86Hz, with a 1.2dB bump at 160Hz. These are approximate results, the cab dimensions are estimates (not sure what the MDF thickness is).
You could use this info to design a ported cab, but the parameters of the Kone seem to suggest that you might not get much low end benefit from a ported cab vs. a closed cab. You can throw the TS parameters into a cab design program and estimate the low end results of a specific design however.

Hi
As I wrote earlier I would like to see the possiblity to save a rig with the Kone on but Cab off i.e. FR mode.
If it is not possible in the output section would it not be possible to include that mode in the Cab module?
I mean - an imprint of a V30 means, up to my knowledge, that you make a eq correction so the Kone sounds like a V30.
Would it not be possible to make an imprint that makes no eq correction and then makes it just a Kone/FR?

Just delete the cab portion of the rig, and the imprint is also bypassed
-
That was not what I meant
If you have a rig with a cab and that is meant to play thru a FR cab (and the main output thru FOH).
I want the Kone to act as a FR speaker, Kone on and Cab off, with the cab module still on.
Exactly the same sound as the main output to FOH.
My reason is that some rigs, to my ears, sounds better with the Kone in FR mode and the cab in the cab meny as it was profiled.

Is there any progress from Kemper to improve the sound when using high gain with imprints w/Kone?
We all know that high gain (e.g. ENGL, JCM800 Cranked etc) sounds great in Kone 'FRFR' mode, but with Imprints the sound is usually muffled / blanket over speaker.
Imprints with lower gain is flawless and awesome.
-
kemper replied it's best to untick monitor cab off & sweetening for high gain. I reckon Kone is fab on low gain and crunches

Kab needs improving, not the Kone. Try a cab with all birch construction, about 12" deep and if you insist on a 1x12, it should be ported. Since the Kones are replicating a real speaker (not mic'd), internal volume is important and you will get better chugga chugga results in a 2x12 or more...just like you would with real guitar speakers
