threads can only be edited for 5 minutes now. we have changed that for a reason but i would prefer to not go into details. is that a problem or is there something we should take into account?

I would like to be able to edit the first post in my threads though.

Hello, this is a major issue for me as I tend to type very fast when in rush mode (late nite ..) and correct the typo the next day , for instance.
I also change the content of some of my threads with updated infos, clips , in order not to create too much new ones.
I also had some controversial thread that I had to edit not because I don't assume my text but it was too shocking for some of the readers and I was urged to do it by them.
Here are a couple of possible considerations:
When a problem/question thread is resolved, it will no longer possible to add the word "Solved" to the the post titlle.
Commercial Posters will no longer be able to use just one single thread for all their offerings, and edit the title when a new product is offered. They will need to create a new thread, named after the new offering.
Threads like "Kemper Wah Settings" have a first post that is updated when new content is added.
I would like to be able to edit the first post in my threads though
This is a fine 'in the middle' solution I think, be able to edit a thread we started.
I am not sure if this is possible just to be able to edit the 1st post but it makes sense. It is common practice that the 1st post is edited as a master post as @paults suggested.
Perhaps the software's thread moderation options would allow just the original poster to edit their posts within a thread.
For me it's bad. I made these days a thread for to buy guitars. Now I'm bought a guitar and don't watching no more for this model. And my idea was that I would make updates what I'm looking for.
On the other hand I found a mistake of my discription I would chance. But that's no more possible now.
But many thanks, that you pin it!
i understand your concerns. we'll change it back
Thats great @G String! Thanx!

Thank you so much, G String.
If I understand this correctly, it'd have meant the death of the wah-settings thread, which would've been pretty devastating to me 'cause it's so important as a means of giving back to the community.
