New to the Kemper family party...

Hey guys - I just ordered a Kemper Rack...it will be here in 3 days. I am so stoked!

I am looking forward to creating the biggest acoustic guitar sound for my live rig. It goes with out saying that playing electric will be a blast, but I am really interested to see what I can do with my Martin guitars.

I have the Bose L1 Model II with double B1 cabs, and the Bose L1 Compact. I am going to try those first, then order the Atomic CLR NEO, if I am not happy enough.

Anyone that has created a awesome acoustic rig with this? I would appreciate any tips you want to share.

In Rig Exchange there are some good profiles for acoustic guitars and you can also find some rigs from Kemper Site. Tha pack is called "Rig Pack 01, 02 & 04 (April 2012 - January 2013) revised".

I've played with recording acoustic but I haven't gone into it enough to find a firm solution. I still like using microphones, but my internal iMix can get some of that finger and treble top end to add to the mix and blend.

Welcome to the club! The Bose should work well... As for the profiles, you should find something to suit your taste, try the factory presets "Acoustic Guitar A-D" (I think they were called).

Thanks guys! It arrived today. I stumbled on the Acoustic A-E. I like E. Thanks for the tip Nightlight. I jammed through all the Factory Presets and started marking a few favorites. I was a bit disappointed that my Kemper arrived with a screw bouncing around in the case. I took it apart and fixed it. Screw fell out by one of the front face ribbon cables. Simple repair, and glad i didn't just send it back. Otherwise, it fired up without incident, and I updated the firmware. Time to start tinkering.

Welcome! And keep us updated on your acoustic adventures. Not many seem to use it in that way so I'd be extremely interested in anything cool you discover. Just getting an acoustic trio up and running alongside the funk band I play with so will be tinkering soon too.

paults: I'm thinking of using something for backline at gigs other than what the house provides. How does the L1 system cut it on an extremely noisy stage? Would I be better off getting something like a DXR or CLR instead? What about the bass module that comes with the L1 system? Is it required? And what's the difference between an L1 Model 1 and Model 2? L1 compact? Which one do you use? Can it be heard over a drummer? Thanks.

Also, I play heavy metal. Is this a good option for those kinds of distorted sounds? How flat are they?

I use an original L1 with a single bass module. I got a DXR10 for some fast-setup stages, but have been using if for every gig, because it surprised me with how versatile it is.

The Bose sounds like a six foot tall studio monitor. No issues with tweaking for it. My gain sounds range from JCM800 to Silver Jubilee to Recto to JSX. The Bose does not add harshness, and can be loud enough to wound small animals.

BUT - We don't backline our amps - they are always sidewashed. The Bose has a very wide dispersion, and long throw. That is great for sidewash. With the speaker at ear level and the sub on the floor, you can hear it and feel it, and so can the other side of the stage. It seems as loud from 30 feet away as it is from five feet away. It can easily be heard over a drummer - it is freaking loud I think one sub is needed for the right kind of thump.

The Model 2 is a redesign, for easier set up. A sub with it would also be a good idea. The Compact has less power, and a built in sub. I've not played through one - it may be more than enough.

Used as backline, you might have the risk of your stage volume being too loud for the room. If your guitar should primarily be heard through the house PA, the Bose would likely be competing with it.

The DXR, when used "standing up", has the same kind of low end as a guitar cabinet. When I use it that way, I often use the 100hz HPF on the back panel to make it sound a little more linear. Used as a wedge, it is more directional, and has more than enough clean accurate power and sound to damage your hearing with one of these.

The Bose L1 is an expensive option for backline use. Many users here have used a Fender Mustang III for that purpose, which is far less expensive, and much easier to tote than the L1.
