Compliments to this guy, Thomas Dill
What a great masterclass this is !!
I hope Kemper is gonna add subtitles to it because this guy knows what he's talking about when it comes to Kemper in the studio !!
Correction !! Monkey man told us there is a subtitle function into YouTube !! Just activate "subtitle" and you can choose any language you want It's far from 100% accurate but at least you know what Thomas is talking about....Didn't know the existence of this option so thanks so much Nicky !!
I know my name is very difficult to pronounce for all non Dutch guys but this translation gives a whole new and a to me unknown variation...Bernd Maylander hmmmm

I hope but..

I count myself very lucky to speak German, because this masterclass is great. I tried his tip for setting the EQ "Pre" rather than "Post" and this opens a whole new door in terms of tone sculpting.
It also confirmed my approach on how to try out a profile. Basically, you should be able to get about 90% of what you want by just using the definition control. The tiny rest can be achieved by the eq.
He's not a fan of adding eq's in the post slots, which I also agree with.
A lot of helpful stuff in this masterclass. A second masterclass on live use has also been published. He also uses Bert's profiles
-
Well, the only thing I might disagree with is adding a post EQ...
In my profiles I often use an EQ in slot 5.
The only thing it does is cut some low below 90-100 Hz. You probably need it anyway because you're interfering with the bass and if you don't do it yourself your FOH or studio engineer will do it...at least, that's my experience.
The other thing I often do is adding a tiny bit of 2 frequencies. This achieves a more "in your face" result, it doesn't change the sound or character of the profile, it only creates a more upfront in the mix result.
For those who are using my profiles, check it out when you are recording a track. You will notice the difference
And if you don't like it, get rid of it. It will sound good anyway
-
I totally understand how you use the EQ and it makes total sense. What I don't believe in is eq'ing the hell out of a profile in order to make it sound more or less good... There's so many great profiles that work without much adjustement needed.
-
I totally agree guizmobro
-
Yup.
I've always said that Definition is my favourite parameter on the KPA. I hit it first before any Stack EQ or anything else.
Thank you for sharing the video, Bert. I watched it with youtube's text translation on.

Thanks for sharing that, Bert! I think most of us are always looking to learn more about how all the pro's do what they do!
Cheers,
Jeff

Hey Nicky, thanks man, I didn't know there was a translation and subtitle function on YouTube That's good to know !!
It translate my name into Bernd Maylander though which is not so nice haha
Yes, definition is favourite but can change the character and sound of the profile which doesn't mean at all that's a bad thing to happen...but absolutely the first thing to grab when it comes to fine tuning or tweaking...
But imho the most important thing is that the source has to be right..

Jeff, you can always ask anything you want to know man... no problem !!

Hey Nicky, thanks man, I didn't know there was a translation and subtitle function on YouTube
That's the first time I've used it, Bert. I've seen the "CC" option there for years but thought it only applied to videos for which the subtitles had been made by someone.
After using it for the video you posted, I figured out that youtube must be using speech-recognition software (talk-to-text) and then Google's translation software to convert it into whichever language you choose.
That's good to know !!
It translate my name into Bernd Maylander though which is not so nice haha
Yeah I saw that! Too funny. There were many strange things in the translation, but at least non-German speakers can get a basic idea about what he's saying.
I hope Kemper is gonna add subtitles to it because this guy knows what he's talking about when it comes to Kemper in the studio !!
No need to worry about this now!

Got the Filmo pack a couple weeks ago, and it's become a real go-to for me. Great sounds! I've even used it on pedal steel with nice results.

This is the first video in my serie "Bert's favorites"
It's about profiles which I use in my main session bank.
I hope you'll like it.
If you want more or more detailed info in the video's please let me know.

Great video! I dig this profile, too!:)
-
Great profile and great video Bert, well done! I like your Filmo pack a lot, really great for clean and breakup tones which bring out these little differences in picking and how hard you strike the strings. Very dynamic as well. And the BE100 pack is a go to for heavier tones. Great job!
