Hi,
I'm planning to get a fractal fx8 as a controller/extra fx unit for my KPA.
Anyone else had similar thoughts or found problems with the plan?

I thought of this - but the problem with the plan is when the FX8 is actually coming out and the price - which could be whopping - not sure there would be enough added value to justify one - Kemper can do most fx well - it lacks more inventive delays and reverbs but a couple of extra stomps can remedy that.
It can send MIDI PC, CC and expression, so it should be able to control the Kemper. When the FX8 manual is published, you can get more details about that, and see if you like the user interface.
It looks like it has plenty of effects in it, too
My understanding is it can hold 8 effects at a time and you choose from the editor software which ones you want. I don't know if you can choose to have the Amp in there as a block or if the effects are pre or post amp. I'm assuming you can choose the put the amp block in there, but if so, does that take a slot? So I'd like to see more from the manual.
But endlessnameless hits it on the head with is it worth the price? My thought is the Kemper lacks Spring Reverb and Eventide good reverbs and delays, but you can get a used Eclipse for $1200 so if the FX8 is more than that, is it worth it? Depends on your FX needs.
The signal flow is similar to a TC G-System:
It is designed to be used with a conventional amp (but, could be used easily with the Kemper). It has pre-effects (between the guitar and the amp) and post-effects (in the amp's FX Loop), It also has relays to control amp channel switching.
Guitar -> FX8 pre effects -> Kemper In -> Kemper FX SEND -> FX8 post effects -> Kemper FX Return
The price is $1349.95
You should be able to insert the Kemper into the loop of the FX8. That way, you would be able to place it anywhere in the signal chain. Don't see any problems with running this kind of setup. Should be an excellent way to get more FX, for which the Axe is highly reputed.
Thank for the replies! If I end going with it I'll let you know how it works out
Yeah good luck, let us know how it works out. I was planning the same route, but got put off by the group over there. I went Strymon and will add the Kemper pedal instead.
What strymon pedals did you go for? I am wondering if a Big Sky for reverb and El Cap for delay are a big step on the Kemper internal fx. I think the kemper delay is pretty good but the reverb is limited. I also find the delay parameters a bit unclear.
I did the Big Sky for now. I had trouble trying to achieve ambient sounds, so I figured with those reverbs I'd be good to go. I'm hoping to make do with the internal delays, but El Cap would be on a short list if I was to look further. So far the pedal sounds really, really nice and I'm quite happy
Thanks - I have a Boss RV5 which has an amazing mod delay but the bypass on Boss pedals is not something I am a fan of. I love shoegaze type bands like my bloody valentine so I thought perhaps the bigsky could achieve those tones.
I'm pretty sure it will achieve those tones easily. I'd check out the Strymon YouTube videos on the Big Sky. They did a video on each reverb type that really showcases the unit.
This is the one that sold me. http://youtu.be/wvH8Or_rkFY

Does anybody know if the Fractal gear sounds this good?
Does anybody know if the Fractal gear sounds this good?
Yes it does. I had an Axe FX and I had no problem with the effects side of things.
I will be getting the FX8 and using it with my Kemper as well as my real valve amps.
I am just interested in their effects at this point. I have a Kemper and I am not looking for the proverbial green grass. So the effects are on par with the Strymon?
I'll wait, too much dough for something that can't act as a backup amp, at least for me it is. Waiting for reviews from anyone who gets one of the new Atomic Amplifire Pedals.

Yes, definitely.
i'm on the waitlist for the FX8. Definitely worth it considering a couple of Strymons can easily get you past $1k.
Larry has sold me. https://youtu.be/msQ_coByw4A
I am on the list too. I wonder how long the list is.
My GAS is on hold for now, been pushing it a bit recently haha.......
