Testing 3 Les Pauls with same profile, which one do you prefer?
Each time Bridge, Middle, Neck pickup.
I find that the third one is hotter (probably too hot for my tastes) than the others, but the overall tone of the pickups is very nice.
I find the first two more balanced, the first has a good definition, the second is slightly muddier.
In the end, i'd probably choose the first and lower the pickups
EDIT: i meant the THIRD
I prefer the third because of the overall tone, the somewhat hotter output gives a slightly thicker tone. Nice intonation, the other two sound slightly out of tune to me.
Sorry, but with iPad/earbuds, they sound the same. For the middle and neck pups, you could try adding the high pass capacitor that acts when you dial down the volume a bit.
I have an old '72 3 pup Artisan model LP. The wiring was redone somehow to allow blending of pups. An 11 pound wonder that feels fretless!
Generally hard to judge. Most is depending on personal preference and individual taste, but I would go definitely with #3. Thicker tone, more saturated. Gain level could be controlled with the volume knob. Maybe you wanna try some clean tones also? Especially for the neck pickup?
I prefer the 3rd
I like the first one best. Most musical tone for me.
Most of you seem to prefer the 3rd, i will let others chime in before saying which guitar they are
the profile is a 67 plexi from Darrcooper which i downloaded from the rig exchange with gain quite high which i like a lot and use as my main rythm tone as it reacts very well to my picking dynamics and volume pot
it is a fast recording i did only for my personal reference, i will surely do clean and crunch later.
sorry for the tuning, i did this in 5 minutes early this morning before going to work.
volume is on 10 on all pickups.
for me 1ST
I liked the first for single note leads. Sounded smooth and bluesy on the neck, and the note decay sounded more musical to me... I am listening thru the iPad so the rhythm sounds were not as distinct.
First is the best tone to me.
First seems the most natural. Of course these are not in a track so it s hard to judge what the tone is supposed to do ... But for naked guitars, number one does it for me.
First one has more clarity.
Second one sounds a bit muffled to me. Third one is good too, but I like the first one best I guess
I don't like any of them, but that's probably because of the profile chosen. Way to harsh, no body. With this profile I couldn't choose a Les Paul, sorry.
So which is which then?
1st is my 2008 chambered LP studio 50's wiring with seymour duncan seth lover unpotted neck pickup and 490r bridge customized with lots of hours of sweat and rust and it feedbacks like a dog most of the time action so high that nobody want to try play it but i'm used to the guitar and i play best on it. It sounds very raw and agressive, i prefer say punchy
2 is a cheesehole LP standard stock modern wiring with 490r neck pickup and 498t bridge pickup very muddy indeed, lack of clarity and definition, i seriously think that this guitar need new pickups.
3 is my new tokai ls100f completely stock which will soon replace the studio as my main live guitar. In my opinion has the most clarity and definition and the most versatile
It's not a very fair test because the profile was tweak for my LP studio but i wanted to know how they compare with the profile i'm used to. I will do a clean comparison as soon as i find time.
Thanks for your comments guys
When will you stop this campaign driving me crazy about Tokai's?
