I can't seem to find this effect if it exists. Does anyone have any advice? I want to run in a stomp section.
Looking for a tube pedal styled overdrive

Can you give an example of your definition of this type of pedal? Tubescreamer (tube in name only), Butler Tube Driver (an actual tube, but run at reduced voltage),a full-voltage tube preamp, something else?

Well.. haha I want to achieve tones like this:
(2) Big Sugar - Round And Round (For CJ) - YouTube
The (pre-amp) he uses is a Garnet Herzog which is a 5w 6V6 overdrive amp/preamp thing for lack of a better word. Usually into a big clean amp. I'm having a HELL of a time getting anything even close to this tone.
It's actully similar to running a Fender Champ with a line level speaker tap into the front of another tube amp.

Sounds like a Kemper Fuzz stomp would work for me with a doubled guitar track.
-
That tone doesn't sound that difficult to achieve IMHO. It is a darker fuzz type tone, with a little push in the mids. I would think between a fuzz and an EQ you could get in that area. From what you are saying he is probably driving the amp input pretty hard. You may also be able to stack two drives and get in this area but may still need the EQ with it.

It sounds like the tone control is dialed back as well.

So yeah, Tried the Fuzz into a Champ profile. It gets close but its not right. Tried some clean amps, maybe close but not right still. Im surprised there is no tube style OD pedal.

Try this "secret" Kemper trick... Put the Fuzz in slot A or B, and then turn on the Parallel Path,. Then do the Parallel Mix to taste.
-
Huh, parallel path eh? I haven't used that before. Where abouts do I find it?
-
In that clip there are at least 2 tracks of that guitar, probably with a bit of a delay (possibly done in the DAW by sliding one of the tracks a tiny bit and panning) and zero reverb. I can't imagine that between the Kemper Fuzz and the Kemper Drive that you wouldn't be able to get very close if you use the same guitar, pickups, and playing nuance.
-
I don't think parallel path is the answer btw. No disrespect BayouTexan 🙂
-
Well I did try the reverse, using the Kemper with a Champ profile into a Marshall. It did get somewhat closer but still not really. Boo!

That's not the right approach. That's the same as taking a feed of a microphone in front of a Champ from the mixing desk and feeding it into the guitar input of a Marshall.

Don't knock it until you've tried it. There is no right answer in music.

1) I knew nothing about this, they are like little easter eggs....although I can;t see a use for me...see point 2..
2) ..except I've just thought of something. A classic example of when you think you don't need anything else and there it is...something someone else has thought of!!!!
Cheers dude....always learning!
