Does anyone have any recommendations for an EXTREMELY LIGHT 1x12" empty cabinet for the Kemper Kone? By light, I'm talking under 15 pounds without the speaker (15 pounds being MAXIMUM). I don't care about durability because I don't take it on the road or anything. I have a matrix neo 1X12" which is 16 pounds WITH the Neo speaker in it (probably around 12 pounds without), but I use that as is and don't want to spend $450 for another one just to get the cabinet.

If it is for home use, you could build a copy of your Matrix cabinet. It would not even need the additional weight of hardware.

I have like ZERO construction ability. I don't even own a hammer, he he.

I had a jet-city 1x12 once that was light as could be....You might be able to find the box w/o speaker on ebay

This one is close to your requirements: 1x12 Cab

A little heavy at 18 pounds, which will be about 28 with the Kemper Kone, but cheap and i like the option of closed OR open back.

This weighs 13 pounds, although I little expensive at $269. It has an open back - does the Kone sound better will a closed back enclosure?

I remember at one time seeing a PINE version of this (440 Live 1x12" that is) at 12 pounds. I can't seem to find it now though.

Probably didn't have the Baltic birch plywood speaker baffle

How about the Laney IRT112?

Whats the price point of the Kone Cab does anyone know?
-
The cab itself contributes significantly to the sound of any guitar speaker - not just the driver. The resonances of the cab are part of the tone. I would expect the Kemper Kone to sound a little different in different cabs. It is possible that the DSP programming will have some impact - it may impart some cabinet characteristics - eg resonances - to the tone.
Seems like we are all going to make like mad scientists with these things and I guess we can share our findings here.

Any tweed extension cab should come in around 13lbs unloaded. I bought mine from Mojotone with a 3-piece back for the Kone. But, I really wouldn't do anything until we see the specs for the Kabinet.

$450 for the Kabinet at 24.9 pounds weight. $165 for the Kone at 8.6 pounds weight. So incrementally the cabinet weights 16.3 pounds empty for an increment price of $285. So that's the compare point for your own cabinet if you buy the Kone only.

I'm new to the whole FRFR / Kone universe and I wonder if those speakers also need 'wood' to enhance their full potential in sound just like regular speaker?
If not, then a lighter cab in weight could be a win-win situation. I have found the Marshall Code 212 vertical Cab as an interesting starting point: relatively light, almost the same price as an empty cab and a nice look too ...

Those go back and forth between MDF to ply, website specs say 45lbs so I'm going to guess this year it's MDF. TRM Cabs makes a pine 2x12 that comes in at 25lbs. But, judging by your screen name, I'm going to predict you will be very disappointed with the chugga chugga if you choose anything other than all birch ply with a reinforced baffle.

Not as light as the Kemper Kab (and open back), but the Seismic 1x12V has worked out well here.
