The first thing I did was remove the feet in 2015 so I could rack mount. Sometimes it is part of a 12u case and for flying it goes into a 3u Roto Rack to carry on. There has never been an issue.
the ventilation slots on the bottom are there for a reason. Blocking them is not recommended to prevent any issues due to overheating. Make sure that there is always sufficient space underneath the unit to provide enough airflow.
It does get quite hot during shows.

I was debating on putting it in a 3 space skb, but I wanted to use my furman conditioner with it. I guess if I get a 4 space I should mount it on top of the power conditioner?

I’d put the power conditioner on top of the Kemper, the air flow is on the bottom from what I’m reading and any added heat to that area certainly wouldn’t help!!!
So what's the recommendation when using it in a rack. Leave a single empty slot underneath for ventilation, maybe use it for an I/O panel?

it depends on the rack case. Some vendors provide a bit of extra space while others make it a tight fit. If you want to be on the safe side get a 4U rack.
I should point out that my rack is unpowered, so maybe that is why it doesn't seem to run hot.
Well. I've ordered a 4U Gator case, it seemed to have at least some amount of space between the mounting and bottom of the case, allowing for some minimal air flow:

On the plus side ........your remote will slide conveniently under neath for transport...

Same one as I've used for 4 years with a power conditioner ( power rack) no issues.
I have mine in a 3U shallow Gator and it’s fits perfectly.
I finally decided to use my non powered rack also live with a 1 U power amp. Most likely the Palmer Macht 402 which is 2,4 cm deeper as the Kemper. A 4U shallow rack like the Gator, SKB etc would be nice. Can anybody tell me if this would work and if there's still enough space for the remote in the rear cover?
I have a shallow 4U SKB that fits the remote in the back using Velcro to secure the remote to the back cover. Works great! The only reason I went w z/ a 4U is for stowing cables.
