Overkill, brother.
I'm so happy that my ears are too bad to hear differences that justify buying the REAL expensive stuff.
I tested the AKG k701. For me they work fine. You will hear bad rigs very fast.
I compared it only with cabinets. For this price. Lovely sound!
Always wanted to try the AKG K702
Yeah give them a try. Today I heard the HD630 from SH. Also very good or me to much low end. Not real references.
The 701 are very light, nice wearing. I can wear these the whole day. Sound is detailed.
Direct Sound EX-29 are closed back with the most isolation. I purchased them for mic placement as they have the most passive isolation of any I'd seen at the time.
These are not accurate on the high end (roll off) but profiles sound good through them for playing. Not overly expensive.

I have Sennheiser HD600's as well and agree with benvigil:
Second the HD600. Super natural sound, nothing is overhyped like the Sony MDR-7506 or the DT-770/990 -- never tried the DT-880 but want to.
The only drawback is that, being open back, you need a decent SPL to cover the sound of the strings. It's nice being able to have a normal conversation and hear your surroundings with them on, for the reasons you mention.
They are somewhat lean on the bottom end.

Also agree with that.
I roll with the classic Sony MDR-7506 and I love them. Same design since they came out before I was born. don't fix what ain't broke!
Plus they were only $75 on sale.

Lol, yup, gotta few pair too!

Rock on
They may not be the best that exist but IMO for the price it's hard to beat the range. I'd rather spend the extra money on things like a FRFR or power amp and cab. The things that make the Kemper sound good really loud when everyone else hears it too

Yeah man, I even bought replacement pads for both sets - had them for forever so they were seriously worn out lol. Work like new now!
Agreed, with regards to buying gear, however, I still would like to have a mid price point set of cans that translate better. Some songs I can nail perfectly on mastering but others are like WTF is going on here!
Additional. Had I nice conversation with the Kemper support. Koss porta pro works well with the Kemper- (good Customer response!)
Price is cheap. I want to give them a try.
That are not over ears.
I will test over ears from Koss.
Massdrop does a Koss Porta Pro model as well: https://www.massdrop.com/buy/massdrop-x…ro-x-headphones
Might try a pair myself!
Check out kopfhoerer.de for the frequency curves of the headphones.
all headphones are incredibly unlinear.
I'm a bit of a heaphone collector and the ones i like the most when using them with the Kemper
are:
Sennheiser HD650 (most linear heaphones ever but still far away from being "perfect" within +/- 3dB or something like that )
V-Moda Crossfade m100 (pretty unlinear but sounds very well with guitars)
JBL Synchros 500 (same as V-mode but more open sounding)
I’m surprised no one mentioned Massdrop’s Sennheiser 58X Jubilee, which is only $150. I was close to pulling the trigger on the 6XX until I saw a lot of complaints on the high impedance: 300 f’ing ohms! This is a problem because I don’t want to carry around a portable amp to listen to music through my phone. The 58X is 150 ohms. It doesn’t need an amp to be driven but it will obviously sound better.
They’re audiophile-quality. They have the same 38mm driver and have the same interchangeable parts of a 600, 6XX, 650. The 58X also has a higher frequency range than the 600/650. The 6 series might sound better with higher and higher end amps & gear, but the 58X is still fantastic without being driven. Also, reviews on mass drop and other sources say the 58X has a flatter response than the 6XX, which is what we want with the Kemper, right?

Thanks! I’m glad to finally join the Kemper family. I just made my obligatory “welcome” post

I've read the whole thread but my doubt remains: what would be your recommendation for a flat response headphone? Let me explain, for those moments when it ain't possible to play without headphones, for instance late at night, I don't want to hear too many differences playing and testing one rig through headphones and later playing that same rig through the interface cabs at home, through a mixing desk at rehearsal or through FOH playing a gig.
I'm aware some minor adjustments are always required since it's not the same environment, cabs, etc, that's fine, but I 'd rather minimize the differences between using or not headphones.
Thanks
