To transform a humbucker into a single coil

  • This is an eq made with Graphic eq.
When you play with your humbucker, this eq try to transform your mic into a single coil.

It remains approximative but it can be useful if you are not too purist.

    Use Graphic Equalizer stomp.
Naturally, you have to place the stomp before the stack section (ideally in the "A" stomp).
I created this eq with a bridge humbucker and with a combination neck/bridge.

    80 Hz : 8.5 dB
    160 Hz : -9.1 dB
    320 Hz : -12 dB
    640 Hz : -3.4 dB
    1250 Hz : -2.6 dB
    2500 Hz : -1.8 dB
    5000 Hz : 10 dB
    10000 Hz : 12 dB
    Low cut : 210.5 Hz
    High cut : 33488.1 Hz
    Volume : -1.5 dB
    Mix : 100%
    Ducking : 0

If you have a better setting then post it.

  • Another setting to transfom a Humbucker (bridge) to a single (TELECASTER) :

    Use Graphic Equalizer stomp.
Naturally, you have to place the stomp before the stack section (ideally in the "A" stomp).
I created this eq with a bridge humbucker.

    80 Hz : -7.0 dB
    160 Hz : -10.0 dB
    320 Hz : -10.0 dB
    640 Hz : -10.0 dB
    1250 Hz : -10.0 dB
    2500 Hz : -4.0 dB
    5000 Hz : 12.0 dB
    10000 Hz : 12.0 dB
    Low cut : 80.7 Hz
    High cut : 33488.1 Hz
    Volume : -1.0 dB
    Mix : 100%
    Ducking : 0

It works very well, with my Aria pro II RS Series.
You can set the mix parameter if the sound is too high.

Once, i tried a Telacaster plugged in the front of a Fender Princetone amp.
For the clean sound, it's very beautilful.
Here, when i play with this eq, my Aria and a Princetone profile, it remains the same characteristics i have heard at the time :

    - the dug side of the Telecaster sound,
    - the screaming highs (the twang) of the Telecaster,
    - and the woody sound of this guitar,
    - the sound of a Telecaster into a Princetone.

    Yes it's so good.

  • If using Top Jimi's stuff this is of relevance

"The profiles are dialed-in for humbucker-equipped guitars, but like most of our profiles you can get great tone from single-coil guitars by reducing the Treble and Presence each by about 0.8"

Have a beer and don't sneer. -CJ. Two non powered Kempers -Two mission stereo FRFR Cabs - Ditto X4 -TC electronic Mimiq.

  • Here's how I do it... (not with kemper eq)...

Video on it later comparing other methods of doing this.

Take humbucker. Remove one line of pole pieces. Have the remaining poles face neck. Reverse pickup if needed. Then replace 500k pot with 250k.

Result? You end up with a hum-cancelling single coilish sound. Much of that sound is in the pot to begin with.

I will see if I can get something as original sounding with kemper eq, which would obviously be more convenient, and post it.
