Today, I had 45 minutes to make some Direct amp profiling tests :

Good news, the profiling return level is nice (about +2db, and I didn't take too much time for it). Another good news, the profile tone and the reference amp tones are very very close without refining.

The purpose here is just to make some tests, so don't worry if the DA don't sound that good :

7 profiles / 9 rigs :
IIC+ DA 001 to 003 : simul class disabled. 001 has an 3 band EQ with bass and mids set very high, and graphic eq in odd position. I think 003 had a Petrucci settings, but the graphic eq is so sensitive that 1mm in a graphic eq band can change dramatically the tone !!

After IIC+ JP stuff :
exactly the same settings but one in the 60W mode,
one with graph eq off,
one in the Simul Class mode,
one with the SimulClass + Hetfield or JP mode (a kind of modern mode in the poweramp section, I don't remember which one is what)

the purpose is only to hear the differences between the different poweramp modes.
I removed the profiles as the results don't please me, waiting for the HULK pack...

The results with the merged cab is not what I want, but impressive how the Hetfield mode gives evrything way more agressive for instance ! The profiling doen't take into account the way the volume jumps between the 60w mode and the simul class mode, which is a good thing here, but the difference in the Direct amp tone is not that important.

What is great is that also I have 2 separate rooms and I don't hear the actual amp sound with my headphone, which halps comparing the referenceamp/profile tones.

Moreover, my amp is equipped by 4 Tungsol + 1 Philips in preamp and 4 Winged C in poweramp.

The amp is less agressive that with standard Mesa/Boogie tubes.

I added in the archive 2 tweaked rigs using the TSM M1 cab of Thumas.

You are more in what you are used to hear from me. DA profiles are the JP simulclass and the JP JH ones

Only Mark owners can know how the Graphic eq is powerful and sensitive, even more for Direct amp profiles... all the tone is in the GEQ...

Ludo, how did you try them ? Did you use them using the onboard cab or did you only use the Direct amp profile to a powerhead to a guitar amp cab ? All your comments are spot on, as I used extreme EQ'ing on the amp

If using with the current merged cab, they sound crappy. I am currently making studio profiles and they sound actually awesome... but I want to be sure before merging anything that the Direct amp sound Ok or not

IIRC, StevekHQ posted some Metallica profiles from his IIC+ in the Rig exchange. Aren't they OK for you ?

I can still try to tonematch the stuff, but not before 15 days, sorry...

Be patient, I am totally excited by my a new experimenting profiling approach. Sounds really great. I have the same tone than the Thumas profiles (but with the IIC+ flavour), and without the problem I got with my neck pickup at the 12th fret of the Low E string... The combo SM57 + Fathead is very nice, I understand better why MBritt uses this.
