which EVH is which? I also like the first better
So I bought an Axe Fx Ax8 and I have been profiling my preset as I make them...

. This is all about capturing the Axe's stock state as accurately as possible at it's curent firmware today.
Then you are profiling the new Quantum FW, yes? I'm surprised Cliff hasn't sent the lawyers after you. I appreciate your efforts here Deadpan and will get around to getting some of these profiles. I am interested in the Buttery, Morgan 20 and HBE , as I've seen guys on the FAS forums crowing about them.

Me too. The second is quite nasal (which might be great for certain mixes, but sounds a bit odd in isolation).
-
Phase issues in the second one, whether it's mic'ing technique, the bad combination of two or more mics or a badly-created IR.

I concur, although listening back, it sounds like it might have been two guitars playing at once? Maybe the Ax and the profile together and summed to mono, creating the out-of-phase nasal quality?
-
Both samples were double tracked and panned hard left / right.
-
Oh ok. The nature of my set up at work means that when I stream stuff directly from the Internet, it essentially gets summed to mono, so I probably can't hear the difference in the stereo field

Deadpan sent me a few AX8 profiles so I thought I'd throw up a comparison and see if you can tell which is which. One is a KPA profile from the rig exchange of an EVH Blue channel and the other is the AX8's Blue channel from a 5153. Incidentally, I dinked with the EQ of the AX8 profile a tad. I'm not trying to prove which one is better here, but more to show that the AX8 sounds pretty good.

I say first is the "Axed" profile (as I am now calling them) with a fair amount of edits on the Kemper and second is the Rig Exchange profile.
I have visited this profile a bit lately and have to say that I actually like it quite a bit. It takes editing in the Kemper very well and is one of the clearer profiles.
-
The 1st clip is the Axe profile, the 2nd clip is the Rig Exchange profile.

Same here Sam. Mac built-in speaker. -
So I attempted to recreate my main Kemper profile in the Axe and then profile it.

Pass or Fail?

It sounds dead on to me Deadpan . . .nice.
-
Man, that new-fangled Kemper thingy sure can replicate stuff perfectly...
I'd say it's a pass, 'Pan Man.

Thanks for the listen and comments!
The order is Ax, Profile of Ax and the original Kemper profile.
After listening back I thought the original profile had more high end and was maybe a tad louder. Pretty close for my ears. With fresh ears I bet I could get it closer.
If anyone is wonder why I would want to do this there are a few reasons:
1. To take my Kemper sounds live without the Kemper
2. To combine all EQ adjustments in the profile so I can free up effect slots for effects. -
Now that 3.0v2 is out can you please try to capture profiles with more realisticer dynamic core losses and leakage inductances? I always felt that something was just not right around the core losses and leakages, but could not put my finger on it exactly.

A reamp of the @HannesITS track with one of my personal profiles.
Pretty sweet death metal riffs:
