Nevermind, go here:
AND VOTE BEFORE READING ON to avoid bias from other people's experiences!
-
Thanks Michael!
-
I'll bet on the first being the analog out. I'm hearing the same differences as on the previous clip.
-
Voted! Please post results soon
-
I'll guess the first sample is digital with it being so close it could go either way. Voted
-
I could hear subtle differences in this test, but can't tell you which is which, only which was (slightly) more pleasing.
-
I posted a link to this thread on TGP, maybe we can get some more input on the poll!
-
I'm thinking - let's keep out opinions "hidden" (i.e. let's refrain from posting our experiences/opinions) until the results are revealed. Just to avoid introducing expectation bias in the voting (i.e. people expecting a certain sound/artifact/whatever from sample x, because other people have said it was there)
-
So when do we cut off the voting and post the results? I think 10 people have voted so far...
-
I posted the TGP message about an hour ago. Maybe give them 24 hours to vote?
-
voted.
-
Good idea, another day should do
-
Only 8 participants it looks like.
Since Michael initiated the poll he is the only one that can open the results.
I'm sure he will be in soon.

And the results are in!!
An overwhelming support for CLIP 1, by 6 votes against 2 votes for CLIP 2.
That means that the majority preferred clip 1.
Got very confused as someone had voted under the name "me", whereas I could have SWORN the I voted for the first clip. But I had already outsmarted "me" and voted as "michael_dk".....
SO!! Which is which, Deadpan???
-
Haha! Sure you didn't vote twice Mike?
And the results...
Clip 1 was analog to Focusrite and clip 2 was spidif direct!

With critical listening this was very obvious. No.1 was more smooth, whereas with no.2 the transients stood out more. In direct comparison I liked 1 better (and voted accordingly). Thanks for the test. -

Thanks for the test. This was what I thought, but as I have no experience of using the spdif output (the spdif input on my Nucleus is optical) I only ever heard the analogue outputs, haha!
-
That's funny! I think I voted #2 for the same reason it was stated here...smoother sound and a bit more compression feel... I record with the analog outputs.
i guess in my defense I have to say that I listened to the clips on my iPhone because I was away from my studio
