its the same with a loud mastering...usually a not loud master turned louder sounds much better than a loud as loud master on the same level
But now one would do a mastering nowheredays like Nirvana Nevermind (rms -14db) everything has to be -8 or even more like -6
just a psychological thing..

Agreed - human hearing is not linear.
But, people who have to turn down their tube amps when they play through guitar cabinets don't say "Fletcher Munson".
They say "This gig sucks!"
.I remember those days lol

Nothing but their fault, if you ask me

I profiled my JMP 2203 through my Hotplate using no attenuation (just the line out) into the Kemper. I kept my cab plugged into the hotplate since I wasn't using it's load (using it's load adds an unwanted boost in the midrange). After profiling, I added my newly cab converted Ownhammer IR's and wow. Sounds really really great. I noticed pressing merge made it sound worse. This must be useful for a cab that is not from an IR but perhaps from a full profile.
-
yes just for the full profile of the same chain

I got a chance to plug the KPA into my MosValve 500 power amp into my 2x12 scumback cab, bypassing the IR I had on the DI profile I took this morning. I was wowed all over again. I have never been so sonically excited about having a digital rig as I am right now. I did not enjoy the DI profiles I took a year or so ago. This is a whole new league to me.

I have the same USB issue that others have reported, FW Version 2.8.0.10549B.
The USB stick doesn't seem to be recognized, and additionally: the KPA freezes if I push any buttons while the stick is connected.
Only way to wake it up again is to pull the stick out and reboot. The stick must be removed or else the KPA freeze on the splash screen.
The stick is fine as I can force a downgrade to 2.7.4 and use it with no issues at all. Likewise, I can upgrade normally again so long as I
remove the stick when the KPA reboots (to avoid freezing at the splash screen again). Hope this one is reproducable and relatively easy
to fix as I have to flash the KPA twice just to import something as it is now (can't use the Rig Manager in my setup).Otherwise I'm extremely exitced about this upgrade. Haven't had any chance to test any new profiles yet, but based on others feedback
this might be exactly what I've been missing since I bought my first KPA 2 years ago. -
So excited about this. It gives the guys who are two lazy to mic a cab like myself a chance to profile my amp DI then add a professionally recorded cab sound. I've found cab sounds I have liked off other profiles nicked them for other profiles I like through a cab and given a perfect mix for front of house.

Just reporting out, as this is a tech preview: profiling does not seem to work reliably in 2.8.0.10548B. Sometimes I just get a horribly distorted DI profile although I'm trying to profile a clean(ish) amp. I haven't been able to pinpoint the situations in which this happens. Seems to happen randomly.

Replying to myself: This problem appears every time with Hughes & Kettner GrandMeister clean channel. I'm able to create a perfectly fine "studio profile", but DI profile always comes out as very distorted. I have tried it with two different DI boxes.
-
You need a DI box with PAD (-20db or more choosable) , otherwise the signal you are picking up is much to high and will distort

I have one, -40dB. Level is not the problem. I'm able to profile other amps and other channels of the same amp just fine (most of the time).
-
then maybe some strange bug
-
Try firmware 2.8.0.10549 just in case
-
i still have not tried more expensive DI boxes...but my Behringer works. So for starters to try out without spending much money..get a Behringer Ultra G-100
My Difference to regular profiles is maybe 0,5%...sometimes i cant hear anything...so it works.I have similar DI BOX, Behringer Ultra DI100. Would it be safe to use that one for profiling too? Do you attenuate signal with those 2 buttons (-20db), and have ground lift on?
Thanks. -
i dont know if that box is also for such high signals or guitar signal only. But yes - activate pad + groundlift
-
Record both the line output and the resulting DI profile, then send them and the profile along with a description to Kemper so they can fix it. It is a beta after all.

Anyone who have tried replacing the cabinet in already merged profiles with another cab? I've had some weird issues with profiles
that I saved with another cab than the originally merged cab. I just saved them as new profiles, no new cab merging. What happened
here was that the sound changed in the saved profiles after browsing and loading other profiles, almost as if some cabinet character
was "stuck" from previously loaded profiles. Seems to be ok today though....I deleted the affected profiles and saved new ones which
are fine so far. I have no idea what caused this, but I thought I should mention it in case someone else experience the same issue. As for the new profiling scheme in general, I think this will be a huge upgrade...surely for those who play trough a guitar cabinet
live of course, but also for those who like to try different cab profiles when recording. I just wish we could get some DI profiles with the
beta as it would be extremely useful in order to test this properly. No problem for those who have the opportunity to create DI profiles
of course, but kinda hard to evaluate and compare to the old profiling scheme for the rest of us. -
I have the same USB issue that others have reported, FW Version 2.8.0.10549B.
The USB stick doesn't seem to be recognized, and additionally: the KPA freezes if I push any buttons while the stick is connected.
Update: Tried a new stick and it failed as well. So far I've tested 2 different Corsair USB 2.0 sticks and one brand new SanDisk USB 2/3.
One Corsair stick freezes Kemper, the other one does not - but nothing happens when I insert it either. No blinking or any sign of life..
The SanDisk blinks regularly but there's is no connection at all. However, I tried an external WD harddrive and this one worked immediately. Having 1 Terrabyte backup for the KPA is "slightly" overkill..
but at least I can create backups and import profiles until this issue s fixed. -
