Is it a coincidence? Antarctica sets a new record low temperature record of -93C (-136F) at the same time as the concert!
-
Well that was interesting.
Has been very funny reading the posts on the manufacturers forum. It went from major horn tooting on initial announcement to multiple excuses when the videos came out.
Along the lines of:
Youtube made the sound bad.
It was mixed wrong.
It was too cold.
Mettalica are suddenly rubbish.
It was a live mix, so what do you expect.
They didn't have 6 months tweaking experience.
Their live rig sounds bad, so tone-match worked perfectly. -
I actually owned an afx1 & 2.
While I really liked them for what they were, they never sounded 'real' to me.
And that's what I got from the mettalica gig. You could tell it was recorded direct using software amp sims.Regarding the performance, my hands wouldn't work well in that cold either.
-
All props to Metallica for doing this.
When I seen this I was wondering what it had sounded like if they used a KPA. Not just for the sake of the KPA but for our own use because when I seen it I wondered how it would profile their rack. I then realized that a lot of profiles are just amps and was wondering how the profiler would react going through a rack like james's where he uses a blend of two amps and other processing. The guitar goes through the signal so I would imagine that the profiler could too. That being said, I did not have the intention to want to capture the whole Metallica sound into a profile but more to just see what character we can add to a profile that we don't see much of with traditional profiling methods.

Its because they are not using FW13 ...doh how could they mess that up
-
Wonder if they will use the AXE again. I'm sure they can get better tone out of that unit.

LOL!
Yeah someone should've told them to update before doing that gig. -
Well, they did Fractal no favors at the Grammy's either. Terrible tone once again
-
There was much more gone wrong at the Grammy's than tone.
Terrible playing, vocals too low in the mix, the addition of the Pianist (while a very talented fellow)
just was like Playing Death Metal with Mickey Mouse parading around in a day glow blue suit. Very uncool. -

wow, several threads going on about how much users disliked Metallicas sound and playing from the grammy show.
I can't say I enjoyed the sound or playing in the video either, but some comments might be a bit harsh, and some are very funny.

Metallica Meltdown
http://forum.fractalaudio.com/lounge/80829-m…a-meltdown.htmlEven Scott Peterson deleted his own fractal axe fx 2 + metallica add promotion grammy thread on the gear page when it was disliked...
He started with the humble words-
"Watch the Grammy's and you'll know.
Look for the green screen. Word is they are running the newest beta firmware.
Hater's gonna hate, but... damn!"And then the thread went downhill...
-
Harsh? The clip sounds like one of those "[insert band name] Shreds" parody clips.
-
There's a lot of 1984 censorship on TGP.
I've seen hype, snipes, marketing, posts and comments that disappear so you can't find them later on.
There's a long history of it there.

Yes it's very sad to see both the gear page and the fractal audio forum being moderated by the same persons with an obvious agenda that censors the users about specific brand topics, and punish those who dare to confront them about the censorship.
Many wish they could be open like other gear forums.
I noticed that someone saved scott Peterson's deleted 2 page Metallica fractal audio axe fx ad grammy thread from yesterday and it can be downloaded in this link.

Unrar/unzip and open the two url in Firefox.
Scott's posts are often polarizing "haters gonna hate" and written like fractal sales text ads using his tgp as a sales platform. He puts down or censors anyone that expose or criticize him or Cliff Chase for using FUD against other products, and he refuses to acknowledge that everyone else thinks his behaviour is unacceptable and against his own forum rules, a real double standard. The definition of such strange behaviour can be read about in psychology books. Just read other gear forums on the net to see what people think about his forum beaviour. -
I don't know why Metallica don't just use what these guys use?
All bass and guitar tones from Kempers.

Sweet. Thanks from for that link.

"The tube guys are going to go freaking nuts; that's where the hate comes. Wait till some of the more 'tube purist' gearheads notice that there are Fractal's all over..."
"For many of the nay-sayer tube fetishists, it'll be a BIG deal. Here in this section? More par for the course."The oracle. Wonder if it was a personal or corporate choice to delete that thread...

takes him two weeks to build a patch with all these fancy tweaks and it still sounds like garbagethanks for sharing the link!
-
maybe the tone was bad because they weren't using the new XL version....
