Newbie Question:

Yes. Change the suffix .kpabackup to .tar.
Decompress.
Now you see the folder structure with rigs, FX, cabs, etc.
You can edit here by removing or adding files, but you cannot do renaming.
When you're done simply compress the content of the folder, NOT the folder itself and rename again to .kpabackup.
This can now be restored in the profiler.
Thanks Ingold!
Did exactly what I wanted.
Does any of you guys know where in the backup is the information relative to Favourites stored? Maybe in the "=" sign in front of the rig's name?
And, is there any reason/use in some rigs having date/time data in front of the name and others having them behind the name?
Wondered about this, too. Timo should know...

It is "string controller 5". If it matches the owner name of the KPA, it is a "favourite". See the MIDI documentation available in the support section.
And, is there any reason/use in some rigs having date/time data in front of the name and others having them behind the name?
Early firmwares wrote "date time - rig name", later firmware versions wrote "rig name - date time". If you do import the old variant, it gets converted to the new one. This way,
"2011-12-1 15-30-30 - Blurko" should be considered the same as "Blurko - 2011-12-1 15-30-30".

Thanks Timo
I'm not sure I got the first part right.
My question was: when you inspect the rigs' list in an uncompressed backup on your computer, is there a way to tell which ones are Favourites?
Apologize if I've just misunderstood your answer
I understood Timo as "=" equals "matches unit owner" and indicates a favourite.
Thanks Timo.
You can't just look at the rig list in windows explorer or 7-zip (or some other archive viewer) - you have to use the tag editor or something else to extract the tags and make them visible to you. The tag editor should dump that data into a .csv file.
So extract the backup file onto your HD as a folder with all the sub-folders and .kipr files, then run the tag editor on the folder to create a .csv file, then open that in a spreadsheet viewer.
Of course you can look in finder or explorer, you just can't edit, like I said above.
The favourites information is stored in rig tag number 5. If the name stored in this tag matches the KPA owner it is considered a favourite.
You could easily check and change this information with the KIPR Tag Editor.
The latest version of KIPR Tag Editor can directly handle backup files. Backup files can be extracted and created without renaming or additional tar programs.
Talking about changing the profile's name, I know you can't mess with it. But can I swap the date/time and the profile's name parts in the file name? I could automate this and it would be much easier for PC-based file management, because it's easier to read the first part of a long string.
QuoteThe favourites information is stored in rig tag number 5.
Thanks trebie, my question was rather on the "where in the compressed file do you see this w/o an editor" line
Ingolf, I meant you can see the favorites status in Explorer/Finder.

Ah, gotcha now!
