Hi. I’ve finally received my kemper a few days ago and have been using a cheap computer speaker plugged into the headphone output. Do you think there’s any issue with this setup?
I have a pair of Yamaha HS speaker on order but they won’t arrive until another week or so.
So far I’ve found a few profiles that I like, but they’re a bit boomy and thin sounding. Do you think they’re going to sound different/improved through a real speaker/monitor out?
Computer speakers typically do sound booming in the low end and thin. I am sure that you’ll be much happier listening with monitor speakers.
From regular speakers to FRFR Studio monitors is a big difference in tone since regular speakers have boosted midrange. But I don't think those Yamahas are FRFR type but should be a vast improvement over what you have now.
I suggest you wait for the better speakers to arrive and tweak profiles in a mix. You might find a good profile practicing alone and then start playing with a drum and bass track and the profile gets lost in the mix - and you have to tweak all over again.
I would go main outs since that's how the Kemper was design but there are no rules.

Tweak away to your heart's content while you're waiting for your Yamaha HS reference speakers. What model are you getting?
Expect to change those tweaks when you set up the new speakers. I'd connect them to the Profiler Main Outputs.

Thanks a lot for the Input! My unit is a kemper stage, and the speakers I ordered were the HS8.
I'll definitely tweak some more after I receive the speakers. So far after spending further time with the unit, I'm very impressed with the sound and the tone shaping options.
I found some really good free profiles on the rig exchange, and I also bought some profiles from choptones (JP2C, Friedman smallbox, boogie rectoverb). The choptones profiles sound really close to their youtube demo with only a minor tweaking.
