Is there any kind of software monitoring enabled as part of the audio interface software?
This is my current interface setup (clarett 4 pre).

I downloaded it gonna try it out later im at work at the moment doing crazy shifts lol.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/AmazonBasics-2…ctronics&sr=1-1 that is the one i purchased...im still new to S/PDIF so im tredding un-familiar ground when it comes to "correct" cables.
I had a look at this and pretty sure it's just a normal cable used for Hifi connections. Amazon do a Digital Co-ax cable here:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/AmazonBasics-D…171&sr=1-3&th=1
I could also suggest these that I bought on Ebay :
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-5m-Digit…=item3b21fb4a68
No guarantee that these will cure your problem but at least you'll know you have exactly the right kind of cable ....
If this doesn't fix things, you could also give the guys at Focusrite a call.
I had a weird problem with a soundcard of theirs and after emailng them for support, had a very helpful telephone conversation from them
Im using S/PDIF Thats why i got the Clarett 4pre
Have you actually checked main outs? Just to rule out anything concerning SPDIF?

If that does not work you could check Phnoe out as well since that seems to provide a decent sound...

Oh did you mean try main out into interface instead of SPDIF yeah tried that...same result.

Basically: Yes. The same with headphone out? If it sounds just bad recorded theree mustr be something wrong in that place (whatever that means).
This is my current interface setup (clarett 4 pre).
Not familiar with the interface but what are those Software Playback options doing that are enabled. I would have thought that the DAW should be monitoring the inputs but might be wrong.

Speaker/monitor and headphone outputs.
Like Vinny, I’m not familiar with the Focusrite Control software (i still use the old Saffire Mix Control) but my first thought when I saw the screen shot was that it looks like you have SPDIF and Outputs 1-2 sending the same signal. I don’t know the answer in your own case but I think the problem is most likely to lie in a routing configuration of some sort.

Sorry guys...here is more detailed look at what my interface control software is doing.I THINK im doing this correctly.
As I mentioned earlier, I’m not familiar with the current Focusrite software but it does look plausible to me. There are lots of people on the forum use Scarlett or Claret interfaces with SPDIF so hopefully one of them will chime in. It might be worth starting a new thread with a title like “Is my Focusrite interface set up correctly for SPDIF recording” in order to catch the eye of someone with direct experience who may not be following this thread based on the title.
