how do you connect the s/pdif i/o on the kemper to the optical i/o on the babyface pro? I've only found converters with 1 rca to 1 optical
Anyone using the Kemper with Babyface pro?

I didn't know that SPDIF was able to be converted to optical, sounds complicated.
You'd probably be best off using (2) female-XLR to 1/4", from the Kemper to inputs 3 and 4 on the side- if you want stereo.

This would leave the preamp still available for mics.

yepp..but I was thinking about reamping via s/pdif...

I love my RME BabyFace Pro, but the S/PDIF thing is a little annoying. Using an Optical to Coaxial converter should do the trick. I have mine already configured for ADAT, so I just use the analog I/O for reamping. I use the same analog inputs for my Access Virus TI too. I read somewhere on the internet (so it must be true) that the analog outputs make it sound even less digital. LOL as if that's even a problem in the first place.

I'm curious if there was a particular converter box that worked well for this.

You were expecting two for stereo? S/PDIF is a stereo signal. The electrical version is carried via one RCA to RCA lead. The optical form of S/PDIF is carried via one TOSLINK optical link (identical to the ADAT optical cable).

yes I know but I'd like a converter with IN and OUT

I would say that the one you describe - a little box with one RCA port and one optical port - is EXACTLY that. I expect it works either way - electrical in, optical out OR optical in, electrical out.

yes I'm sure it does but then I would need two if I want spdif in AND out connected at the same time for reamping. no big deal..just wondering if there is such a box available

Yes - 2 for 2 conversions if you want to stay digital all the way. You could go digital one way and analog the other if you wanted to save a few bucks.

I ended up getting a couple of boxes from Monoprice for $12 each. They work perfectly with my KPA. But be aware they each have their own wall wart power supply.

Glad to hear that. I have one similar to the first one you have but cannot get the clocks to sync with my Audient :(.

I know this is an old thread but in case anyone is wondering about this, check out the M-Audio CO2 box. They don't make them any more but you can usually find them on eBay and they let you convert both ways at the same time with one box.

I’ve used an MAudio CO2 with Babyface and Kemper for yrs now and it works like a charm/sounds great.

Me too at first. But analog works great with no issues, and less hassle setting up...works better for me.

I use a Babyface. The following is what I did, it worked fine, but in the end, I got tired of the cables/wall warts, and find it easier to just reamp using the 1/4" Direct Out. But this does work. I also looked at the M-Audio box listed here, it looks like a great solution.
