Hey Kemperians
There's quite a lot Petrucci stuff on this forum. Great rigs, delays and so on.
So...
I would like to hear what you think is the best Petrucci lead tone (both free rigs and commercial)

I have canceld every rig that i have for petrucci tones since i bought the jp2 c pack from soundside. This is the amp!
Nice. Can you tell me which profiles you use for lead when playing your JP6?
Not at my machine at this time, but i use the same Profiles with my jp6 and my majesty. In the pack are different miced profiles which sound very different. You have to choose them to your persinal taste. I also use them with another cab. I have an excellent can from deadlight studios which i use as my standard. Its a very cool mesa boogie 2x12 wich is the perfect match for me in combinaton with the profiles. I didnt bought the complete big pack, i bought the just play pack, this was more than enough for me.
BTW: where are you located?
Cheers
Frank
Thanks.
Just play pack? Isn't that a pack from choptones? (The mesa iiC+ Perhaps?)
I would like to know exatly what cab you use from deadlight studio. I have the pack from soundside to, and find the profiles a little bit dark (Haven't played them much thou, just tried them out)
I live in Denmark. And you? Germany?
Yes the just play pack is definitely from Choptones.
From both, by far I prefer the Choptones ones, much closer from the idea I have of a great IIC+ tone.
Is Armin's pack is less good ? Of course not, they are different, and I admit the cleans tones are unbelievable.
If you are looking for a great IIC+ free profile, try the 05-IIC+ LEAD rig in the RE. This is my ready to go rig
I think I bought tons of mark profiles some were shit and some were ok. Personally only ones I use for live and studio stuff is mr.mark4. Instant Petrucci sound. But I always tweak it a little bit depending from gig to gig. Choptones are cool also and Djemass IIc+ stuff. But again, it all depends from the player a d his taste of course.
Yea. I use the Cililab Mr. Bugi Mark 4 profiles too. Absolutely Amazing stuff
Talking Mr. Mark 4.... Which profiles do you use for your lead sound(s)?

Oh man, honestly I don't remember 'cause I renamed them I'll check if I have original zip file.
Tested recently the 2c+ DI pack from Choptones. Coupled to a Guitarhack IR, I was floored. These DI profiles are really awesome.
This guitarhack ir's are truly not so bad!
I think the Djemass profiles blow all the commercial lead tones out of the water.

If you're looking for Images and Words era Petrucci tones, check out my Trix (Triaxis / 2:90 / Recto 4x12)
Very informative thread Thanks guys!
I have the Soundside and Choptones but I think Djemass' profiles are the way to go. They have too much bass and gain to my taste but after tweaking they are very good.

Just tried this profile. Great stuff! Chunky yet tight, clear and defined yet still smooth in the top end! Playing it though Ibanez JS guitar with P90 pickups. Is it a stand alone profile or part of a pack?
Hey it is just a standalone rig
