A suggestion, and a request:
1. For metal guys, one of the holy grails is Fredman micing - two SM57s, one straight on, one right next to it at 45 degrees, like so: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OWnYFRXHYgE - if you've heard In Flames' Clayman, that's a 6505 with a Fredman-miced Mesa cabinet. So, my suggestion: Grab a Fredman profile for each of your cabs or, if you have the time and are feeling generous, get a profile for each of the mics and one of both to give people options.
2. My personal favorite for guitar tone is Jon Schaffer from Iced Earth. He uses expensive custom amps, but he said recently that the Quick Rod is the closest thing to his tone that he's ever heard. If you could get something in the ballpark of this: https://youtu.be/Qs1czfGxTD8?t=38s I would quite possibly shit my pants.
Well then grab yourself an extra pair of pants my friend because Iced Earth is DEFINITELY one of the tone examples I am using! I LOVE JS's tone. Gear 3/OD 1 boosted will get that tone ALL DAMN DAY! Very familiar with the Fredman technique so I will surely see about that.
For über heavy metal mic'd tones I am sending him stuff like:
• Iced Earth - Disciples Of The Lie
• Cannibal Corpse - Make Them Suffer
• Vader - This Is The War
• Anthrax - Fight 'Em Til You Can't
• At The Gates - Blinded By Fear
• BLS - Parade Of The Dead
• In Flames - Behind Space '99
• Hypocrisy - Don't Judge Me (Catch 22 V2.0.8)
• Disfear - Powerload
Really heavy stuff. Some will be accomplished with boosts like the Black Forest/Witch Burner/RAT
I am also sending everything from:
• Deep Purple/Rainbow
• 70's Judas Priest and KISS
• Styx/Journey
• Primal Fear
• Toto
• Dokken/Ratt
• Donnie Iris/Honeymoon Suite/Rick Springfield/Cars
To be honest, I am going to get as many good clean sounds as I can but one thing I notice when guys profile things like Splawn amps is there is not enough good lower to mid gain rock and roll tones. Definitely want those. You can see why I gave myself 5 or 6 weeks to prepare! LOL!
