I had suspected this all along. I hope it becomes widely know.
Direct profile Behringer DI causing flubbiness?

I have been using 8 GI-100s for like 15 year without any problems. Perhaps yours isn´t working properly?
-
Perhaps. But I don't have another to compare it with! Are you profiling high gain profiles too? The difference is more subtle on less gain profiles it seems to me...
-
Update! I've just received the Kemper DI today and did some more direct profiles. Massive difference to using the Behringer!! As I suspected the Behringer didn't cut it - the Kemper DI is MUCH better and the results a MUCH closer to the amp tone. Very very please.
I tried to get one Kemper DI after talking to support due to some problems while DI profiling and writing to the store too and never had a response. Tried again...

Are my ears so damaged? I listened to the files several times over an M-Audio Interface with an AKG 240 Headphone and
i hear no difference.
I would like to rename the files in 1,2,3 puzzle them arround and the someone should say which one is which.
If the result is over 70 %, i would believe and if not i would go to the doc to check my ears...
May be i don't need any Kemper and should amplifi a 50$ guitar through a radio -
I'll do that later, I'll upload the wavs, and the kipr files for you to try and see for yourselves.

I do mostly hi gain and have no problems with my DI stuff. A Di box is a rather simple technical device. If the internal parts are not damaged and levels are within the given ranges i don´t see why there should be severe tonal differences.

Here is another di test somebody else did. I definitely feel there are tonal differences here too

https://www.gearslutz.com/board/gear-sho…ple-way-di.htmlSurely there are differences, because it´s not the same track.

In this example i hear differences. But only those which are played with a bass.

I'd like to try it, please. I experienced some issues using a BSS AR133 which is a good DI box.

Hiya, here are my 3 files. One of them is the Behringer profile, another is profiled using the Kemper DI, and another profiled with the Kemper DI using the refining process.
I've included the Wavs using a Reamped guitar for consistency and the KIPR files for you to try.
I've merged them with a cab, but remember these were originally created as direct profiles of my 5153 50w head.

I wouldn't say the Tonal difference are huge either, but there's definitely a difference comparing the behringer created direct profile with the real amp head. The kemper DI profiles are barely noticeably different to the real head.I'm simply sharing my experience using my behringer box - you could well be right, mine could well be broken!! The only way I'd know is if I bought another behringer box lol

Thank you! I'll try them tomorrow.

What issues did you have with the BSS? It's a powered DI box right?

Yes. It's an active DI box and I had the same results as you. Then I tried with the DI box included in a Two Notes Torpedo VB-101 and the results were much better.

I have 1 being kemper di and 3 being behringer.
I am wondering if those that think the Behringer di creates profiles identical to studio have the di hooked up while doing the studio profile? If so then I'm thinking the impedance change would be present in both and they would be the same but that would inherently make the studio profile flawed. Just thoughts.
Till, when you posted your sample profiles in the other thread I could hear differences between the studio merged making me believe you only had the di connected when doing the da profile.
Of course I could be wrong about everything.
-
Yes to clarify I only had the DI connected (to a cab as well of course), but merged the cab in afterwards to make the demonstration.

That´s strange, because i couldn´t hear any bigger difference there. Not connecting a cab when shooting a DI amp profile would blow up your tube amp. Never run tube amps without a load.
-
Sorry for mis communicating. I didn't mean no cab but having the di box still hooked up when doing the studio profile.
