Questions regarding MIDI and the FCB1010

Hello everyone. New to Kemper here and I have some questions. I have an FCB1010 that I used with my Marshall JVM's. I bought the uno4kemper EPROM. In setting this rig up I see that I need two MIDI cables instead of one due to some functions not working with one. What functions will not work? I only want to change my preset with the footswitch. I have no desire to do stomp boxes or anything of the like. I do wish however to use the Wah and the Volume pedals. So my two major questions...

1. Can I use one midi cable instead of two?

2. How do I engage the wah on the footswitch? Do I have to save a patch with a wah stomp?

If you go uni- directional (1 cable) you lose the ability to show tuning on the FCB and the status of stomps.

Wah is engaged automatically when specified so (bypass @ stop).
Note that you need to have a wah engaged and switched on in one stomps slot.

I'm not sure what functions don't work with just one cable but to get the Wah working I lock it in stomp 1 so its ready for all patches

So the wah is always engaged and on or once I rick the pedal it engages it and turns it off when I'm done?...

I don't need to know the status of my stomps. I'm going to save dry patches and wet patches and switch between the presets. That wsy my solo (wet) patch can be pre saved as louder. I also don't need the FCB as a tuner since I have a rack mount one in the rack with my KPA.

My wah question is still out there. How do I engage it? do I have to turn on the wah then rock the expression or does it just detect the wah when I start to rock the expression?

In the Wah stomp, you can set how you want it to activate. This might not be entirely correct, but I think they are:

On - If the stomp is turned on (lit up) on the Kemper, the pedal is on. This is how real wahs work, the only difference being that they have a toe switch and you'd use one of the buttons on the FCB in this case.
Manual - Pedal does nothing, it's just set in a specific spot as per the settings. Good for a lead boost or something.
Touch - Pedal does nothing, and the effect is instead controlled by how hard you play. Other gear/software calls this an Envelope Follower or something similar.
Bypass@Heel, Bypass@Toe - The effect is turned on whenever the pedal isn't in the heel or toe position, respectively. A Dunlop 95Q is springloaded to pop back to the heel position and shut off - similar idea here, just without the spring.
Bypass@Stop - The effect is turned on whenever you move the pedal, turning off if you stop moving for a second or so.

In all cases, the stomp needs to be active on the Kemper before the wah can activate.

There are several different ways to operate the wah. To engage automatically it when the pedal is moved is one of of them, I do it in this same way with the Uno4Kemper.

IMO it seems like a second cable buys a lot of flexibility (tuner and status). Playing live, I assume beer will put anything at the front of the stage in the danger zone . In my case, I have the wah stomp set to off in the patch as well as toe=off in the parameter so it can't be engaged by someone else falling on or bumping the pedalboard. Myself, I don't tend to toggle stomps within a patch a lot but it buys me the capability of keeping to a single bank for each guitar and eliminates the need to duplicate patches when I just wand to add a little delay or comp.
