Volume control mod on your guitar - cool video

Very cool,
actually there are other mods that go beyond this. A few years ago i purchased a used USA strat from a guy who had that strat modded with the "Lemme C Switch". I never heard of this before, but in fact, it´s awesome. It replaces the original tone pot on your guitar with a pot that has six fixed positions to choose from. Each position has a different set of capacitors enabled. It allows you to change the resonant frequency of the pickups. It does this without sacrificing the tone like with standard tone pots. It actually feels like you had six different pickups in your guitar. Especially with a sginle coil strat this allows you play hi gain rhythm styles without the typical high mid twang. You just go down 2 or 3 positions on your pot and it feels like you are playing humbuckers, without the extra output of course.
I only have a german language link:

I have a Chinese clone of the C-switch made by Artec in 7 of my Electric guitars. It's awesome. Has only 5 positions though. But cost only a few Euros if you order directly from the Chinese dealer.

nothing new to me but very usefull

Can it do the opposite?

Can it do the opposite?
You mean turn a HB into a SC? No, that´s not possible. I think it´s geat for since coils and other very bright guitars but don´t think it works that great with a HB. I could imagine that it works nicely with piezos. I always wondered when they will finally come up with modeling pickups as replacement. -
It is possible to turn a humbucker into a single coil, however.
IIRC, you run one of the coils to ground via a pot - so that turning the pot changes smoothly between humbucker and single coil. -
There is this rather drastic method too, removing the pole screws of one coil :

Go directly to 7'00Personnally I prefer to wire my humbuckers in parallel rather than coil split.
The sound is great, close to a strat intermediate position, and still humbucking. -

IIRC, you run one of the coils to ground via a pot - so that turning the pot changes smoothly between humbucker and single coil.Bill Nash uses this idea with his Les Paul mods. He uses the tone pot. Turned up to 10 it is a single coil, at about 8 it is normal humbucking, and below that it works like a normal tone pot.
It works well. Brightest is all the way up and darkest all the way the down. Intuitive, other than breaking the habit of always having the knobs on 10. The guitar looks stock, but has single coil sounds too.

Yeah, splitting a HB is nothing new. It works great, even with high ouput HBs. But regarding the initial question, turning a real HB into a SC only via a passive modification is not possible. Using a SC with such a capacitator mod is a comporomise too of course. You loose the noise reduction benefits and the higher output of the HBs. Apart from that it´s awesome...

My burny Lp definitely needs this mod!
Thank you Guitartone!
