Jam Along Through Headphone - Alternative Input

Hi,

Unfortunately, as I'm sure all guitarists (and musicians!) can relate to, I can't really practice my guitar in the evening without using headphones.

I bought the Kemper as I thought it had a 'Line In' feature that would allow me to plug in my MP3 (etc.) and have both the guitar signal and MP3 coming through my headphones.

I've tried using the 'Alternative Input' however it is both in mono and also very fuzzy/distant sounding.

Does anybody have any input on this?

Any help would be appreciated.

All you need is a 3.5 cinch (from your MP3-Player) to 2 x 6.3 cinch mono (left and right, which goes to the alternative input of the Kemper).
For example

Then set your aux-in level in the output-section and enjoy.

That's only half of the truth. One TS must be plugged into Alternative Input, the other one into the Return Input. Then you have to enable a Stereo Effects Loop in X or MOD-Slot, but you'll always have the Delay and Reverb of the loaded profile on the audio signal as well.

or just buy a mixer like this one... I know it's a Behringer but it'll serve its purpose

Wouldn't just be easier to get a small mixer and run the KPA & music source into that ?

A headphone amp would work well too. It sure would be nice to just be able to use the alternative input and return like a regular aux in though. Guessing it wouldn't detract from the Kemper's charm as a no-nonsense workhorse, but what the hell do I know?

I've actually found the Behringer Xenyx mixers to be fairly decent for the money. They do feel a bit plasticy but the one I have has been really reliable and does the job as well as you could hope for the money.
