Reading the files is one thing - sounding the same is another.
Hmm seems to work fine with a clean install on my laptop, but on my studio machine that has had previous versions of Rig Manager on it, it just will not connect at all.
OS X sees it in the USB list in System Profiler.
Anyone got this latest Beta and the latest Rig Manager Beta on OS X?
Can't get them to talk to each other (both have been working flawlessly for multiple releases).

Philosophical, but that's exactly what recording music is all about - we can tend to get buried in the technical.
I would just like to chip in again here.
In my experience, (making major label records for 30 years) the best way to arrive at a great end result, is to get it right at the beginning of the process. I'm a big believer in "fix it in the mic" if you don't start with a well recorded source, it will be much more difficult to get the end result you're looking for.
A good quality microphone and preamp (preferably a channel strip) will teach you more about sound than any plugin can achieve. You need to have the finished product in your head before you put up the first mic. That way, when you are recording an instrument, you can reject anything that doesn't match the sound in your head. Learning mic choice and placement is where you start to train your ears and learn about sound.
I've only been lucky once or twice in my time to pull up the faders to mix a track and find that I'd got the tracking so "right" that it was pretty much just a matter of balancing the levels to end up with the mix I'd envisioned at the start of the process.

Reporting back - yes confirmed that ducking at -5.0 is the issue in all the old rigs' Legacy Delay effect for me as well.

Actually to add to my last post, the Steinberg Neve Portico plugin emulations are probably the closest I've ever heard to a piece of hardware. They're a bit niche and aren't super popular, but they really do those compressors and EQs justice.

Hey guys - anyone else have problems with older rigs (The Amp Factory stuff) with the 'Legacy Delay' not working even if you delete the effect and put a new one in?

These days I don't use very many different brands/types of plugins. I used to have a massive list by lost of manufacturers and I sold pretty much all of them. I've actually found over the years that a lot of the Waves plugins look better than they sound!
For general mixing - Equilibrium EQ on everything, Slate VMR, UAD and Cubase's included plugins (which are surprisingly useful).
That's all I ever use no matter the genre, other than effects stuff.
There are plenty of things plugins can't do - none of the Pultec EQ plugins (even UADs) come close to the real thing ... but they're good enough for some things buried in the mix. But that also doesn't mean that the plugin versions are no good - just not the same
@Monkey_Man - I know the theory, but I completely go by ear as well. The questions were really pointedly asking me to give a 'jazz theory' answer to them as that was the interview's angle.
Honestly - it all goes out the window in the studio. Nothing matters at all!
Mixing and arranging is all playing and parts ... pretty much nothing technical.
The horrible irony here is that I'm a non-drinker!
Great American beverages with red backgrounds and white script logos are my go-to at the end of a day at the studio.
