The Player is in line with standards and works with devices that do the same as a USB host (USB A) as well as a USB client (USB B).

It should be possible to use the Ampero with an external power supply and feed MIDI from its MIDI OUT through a MIDI USB interface.

Could you do the same for Airstep?

I know that the MC8 is a very capable and highly-customizable unit, so I have little concern about what it can do.

However, until it arrives, I'd still be willing to see if the Player changes rigs with an ordinary MIDI footswitch hooked up to a casual MIDI > USB-A cable.

You have to hook it up USB B on the Player.

That’s how it works with me Airstep Multi. USB B (Player) —> USB C (Airstep)

PC Number will determine which rig is selected 0 to 54.

Other possibilities not tested yet.

HINT: use your old printer cable (USB B to USB A) with USB A to USB C adapter.

you didn't report back if your Airstep works when connecting 1 DIN cable only (and using a UM-ONE which you seem to have available ) When this doesn't work either.. the problem is definitely with the Airstep.

again: we cannot debug or solve all external problematic non-Kemper products.

maybe now the moment has arrived that you should try to contact the manufacturer of Airstep, and solve this.

I have tried with MIDI OUT only, MIDI IN only and reversed.

The Airstep works with my Boss Waza Air and Positive Grid SparkGo.

I will contact Xsonic, but hate to be bounced between Kemper and Xsonic pushing the blame.

Let’s focus on fixing the problem.

So it seems to me the Airstep has firmware issues.

Unfortunately it's not feasible for us to debug all possible external non-Kemper gear problems.

It would help if we would get a so called 'USB descriptor dump' from your Airstep.

How can I get the descriptor dump?

Are there any MIDI controllers that work OK?

List of tested and recommended brands and models?

I want to add 4+ button footswitch that could be programmed to select rigs, or even toggle between 2 rigs.

these all works fine

hassle free integration? : USB midi is not different than DIN midi in this respect: as with all equipment: one has to take the time to master it. With some external control gear it is needed to configure correct settings, which may not always be easy or trivial.

USB midi when using an external controller has 2 big advantages:

1 = only one cable instead of three, (in, out, powersupply) and no problems with wrongly plugged IN or OUT

2 = power supply over the same cable, and need to externally power the controller

The PROFILER's USB midi host capabilities / connector are actually a very nice, and in much cases, better alternative to legacy DIN connections.

Does it work with Xsonic Airstep?

When I plug my Airstep (using USB C to USB A cable) and power up the Player, it stops booting process with 14 white LEDs on and the last one blinking.

Is my Player defective?

Tried USB A to USB C cable, USB/MIDI cable with IN and OUT, only IN, only OUT, reversed.

Rebooted multiple times.

Tried with all versions ot Airstep firmware.

Tried with BOSS FC-50.

Spent shit lot of time on it.

Everything works OK with Stage.

Waiting for Player update……and good deal on Morningstar 8 button model.

I don't know if it can receive other MIDI commands although the other Kemper devices are quite robust in that department and it is unlikely Kemper would have removed that from the programming of the Player.

I don't have any experience with the GigRig G3, if it sends PC numbers then yes it should work, but I think you have to use the 0-49 range of PC commands since there doesn't seem to be a way to assign different PC numbers to the Players 50 'presets'.

Pressed switches on Airstep - no change..

2. Boss FC-50 using Roland UM-ONE

Player would not boot if USB A to C method used with Airstep.

With both controllers USB/MIDI light blink when pressing any footswich and the USB light is solid.

Is the USB A on Player working?

I am trying to use it with Airstep Multi.

Tried:

1. USB A (on player) to USB C (on Airstep).
