i found a post at VGuitarForums
https://www.vguitarforums.com/smf/index.php?topic=13484.25
it looked very easy to build a converter to control the Variax via MIDI.
in the post is written that you have to send a SysEx wakeup call to the variax before sending MIDI Program canges.
But my Variax 300 understand the command without sysex.
i only had to connect pins 4 and 5 of the MIDI Socket to pin 7+8 of the RJ45 Socket and it works.
In addition i use a power supply (9V DC) at pins 1+2 of the RJ45 to power the variax.
this little prototype works fine.
Now i can use different Guitar Models on my variax without doing complicated switching on the guitar.
I only have to switch to another performance slot.
if anyone is interested i can post a list with the Guitar Models on the Variax and their corresponding program Numbers.

Wow ... very interested (V'ax 500 + 700) - Thanks for the heads up! - The list would be most useful.

Found the Model-list at
https://line6.com/support/topic/…-an-excel-file/
edit: sorry, this is not the excel file where i copied the model list. at the moment i don't find the original post, but this file can be interesting too.
and added the pgm numbers as they are sent from the Kemper

Thank you ... I now have the PGM numbers
(note: the Model list 'is not available' from the link)

i did some more research.
i added a RCA Connector to my prototype
i connet it to the input of this cheap digital to analog converter.
https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B09MT4W6GC
The Output of the coverter i connect to the effects loop return of the Kemper.
When i am switching to a preset for the variax, i engage the loop and switch from normal Guitar to variax. With this few parts i can connect the variax with only one cable.
I also did an update to the preset list
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d…dit?usp=sharing
you can still access the factory settings (Programs 61 and above) after overriding the settings with your own guitar models/tunings. -
looks interesting. JTV59 owner here.

Question for you.
Does AES audio works as soon as you connect the RCA cable? Or do you need to send a sysex command to tell Variax to start sending audio down the VDI adapter?
-
Actually the other question is. Does AES audio work if you do NOT provide power up the VDI cable but only off batteries? Could you do this test for me if yor do not mind?
-
Question 1:
I did not have to send any sysex.Question 2:
Sorry, i cant't try.
I put all aside trying to sell my variax -
Thanks a lot. I guess I'll have to test myself.

Cool Idea!
Would this work with the JTV59?
I’d love to be able to switch the guitar without fiddling around. Would be really useful.
Pre-Amp -
i dont know the JVT59.
But you could try with only the midi socket and the rj45 connechted with 2 wires. -
Ok. Thanks.
Best wishesPre-Amp

If it is of any of your interest. I have created a Wireless Adapter based on CME WIDI Master.
If you are interested, I can build one for you. PM me
