Here is a tone matching experiment with my Kemper Amp + Izotope Ozone. I
tried to match the guitar sound of Killswitch Engange (Song: My Curse)
and as you might notice it's pretty close =)The riff runs 4
times and is changing between original (1st & 3rd run) and Kemper
Amp (2nd & 4th). I will add this rig to the official database
as soon as possible.Better than pretty close!
-
the Pantera one didnt work out at all.
Question, can you do this using an existing profile?
The Pantera one is resonably close, but it still sounds like another amp trying to cop those Randall tones, not going to work out so well, normally. if you could use the Randall profile, you'd probably get a heck of alot closer....
just a thought.
-
I am crazy about this tone and have tried many attempts to tweak rigs to make it but can never nail it. For me its a complicated tone - very rich, smooth, tons of sustain but with such a cutting/biting clarity and airyness - how's that for a description LOL!
Your time in any attempt at this would really be appreciated.

since you cant profile a profile it is not possible. Even if it was, i believe it has something to do with the way the profiling works. The KPA doenst seem to like extremely scooped sounds. But i will investigate a little further.

Maybe this would be possible with 2 KPAs one of which is loaded with the 'starting block' profile and the second one profiling the whole signal chain?
It's getting crazy in here !(in a good way ) this thread is terrific! -

It's getting crazy in here !(in a good way ) this thread is terrific!I dont think that a closer starting sound will give you a better result. The profiling signal that had the tonematched ozone eq enabled sound perfect. The problem was, that the KPA could not reproduce it. When you compared the profile to the reference setup, the profile had way to many mids, even after refining. Since other tones like te petrucci one work perfectly, the only logical assumption is, that it is the differences in the source signal that make the difference.
Here are the two EQ curves:
[Blocked Image: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/5902643/eq_matching1.jpg]The Pantera tone has the most extreme mid scoop i ever saw. My only guess is, that the KPA somehow does somehow not like this. However if you use the studio eq you can compensate this.More frequency bands would be cool though...

Ok, this is a little bit different. The following original and dry files have been provided by MisterC (Man, please turn on your private messages!!!
Angra - Speed
Devin Townsend - Storm
Extreme - PornograffitiSo i didnt even play a single note myself, just took the profiles by reamping the dry files and tonematching them. The audio routing was a little bit tricky, avoiding feedback loops while using SPDIF. But it worked out pretty nicely imo.

Have fun!!!

Will try them as soon as i have a kemper back !

I think i set the flanger on the van Halen tone a bit too high. But i am not really sure how to set this, cause i never use one

I've uploaded the guitar sound from My Curse (Record: As daylight dies - Killswitch Engage) to the Database. Have fun =)
http://kemper-amps.com/api/downloadrig/rig/3hde2Kl5ZqVRzZYfnX08?.kipr</a>If you want to hear how close the sound really is just listen to this file on soundcloud: http://soundcloud.com/me-against-the-world/mycurse-kemper1
Short info for the guy who was asking for "The End of Heartache": The guitar sound is not that much different from "As daylight dies", the eq curves in Ozone almost looked the same. Just turn down Treble/Presence a little bit.
One last thing: If you want to use this sound in a mix you also need a heavily distorted bass to get the same massive guitar sound that you can hear on the records. Try a Fender Jazz Bass through a Marshall JCM 800 for the mids (and only the mids, no lows or highs) and a seperate DI track for the lows. Lowpass and highpass the distorted track (Lowpass somewhere between 3 KHz to 4,5 Khz, Highpass 300-400 HZ) so you only have the distorted mids on this track, then lowpass the DI track and cut everything above 250-300 Hz. Mix both sounds together.

Hey Dirk,the Killswitch is excellento.
-
Nobody tried the Van Halen yet? I am curious about your opinions...
How much does depend on your guitars?
-
Till, can you match this tone on the isolated notes, this guy plays at the beginning?
I forget this guy's name... Ying-Yang something or other...

If you can play that stuff and provide a decent Di track, then maybe

The only thing that's missing now is a good bass profile with a nice distorted sound - just like this one:
