Deadlight Studio Profiles (New Pack out!!)
-
-
Soon more info about that..few things planned but nothing fixed
It sure would be awesome if you guys got your hands on a Mesa JP-2C sometime in the future! I'd buy that in a heartbeat.

I just gotta say, the Marshall "fredman" 2x57 cabinet has gotta be the greatest cabinet ever put out. I just narrowed down my kemper to nothing but merged/DI profiles ( about 200 profiles) and i gotta say that cab has gotta be on 75 percent of them. From Hays ac30 DI profile, to GRS fender super reverbs and 1987 profiles, to rigbusters Cornford mk 50 DI profiles, to tonehammers, this cab just works and sounds absolutely humungous. Also the greenback can is amazing. I attached it to a DI marshall major profile I found and it was juat unreal: the real Marshall tone. also tonehammers cabs on Marcos/origins uberschall is just the most deadly thing I've ever played. Tonehammer is KILLING IT with the merged cabs!
-
I use this cab on my own live when i don´t use the "Mesa Oversize 1" but it also depends..sometimes the single SM57 marshall just fits a bit better. (same goes for other Mesa cabs..)
This fredman cab is even up on Rigexchange..included in the clean Silver Jubilee Profile i uploaded. So everyone can try this one for free
-
It is indeed great. I really like the Hesu ones too, although on other peoples profiles it can often sound too thin or midsy. Much warmer here, cuts through, sounds balanced. Love it. The oversized Rectos are good too, but right now my faves are Hesu, fredman Marshall, and the Engl cabs from the Invader pack.
-
I agree, I love them all I really do. I label them as such and scroll thru them all and decide which cab I like the best for whatever profile I'm on. ( named For example: *TH 1960 2x57).
deadlight, do you find the fredman cab kinda scoopy sounding ? It's so massive sounding, and I feel like the 2 mics almost cancel out some frequencies in a way, atleast when listening on headphones. But NOT in a bad way! I feel like it almost combs out some of the nasty midrange for lack of a better description, maybe you can elaborate on what im trying to get at..
a well micd cab will work for any type of music
And these cabs are evident of that. -
Fredman micing technic is in general to phase cancel out ugly stuff from 2 mics. Imo the result is more midrangy, doesnt feel scooped to me. When you compare it to the 1960 Single SM57 one..its very very close..but bit less harsh and bit more fat gets more focused
I still did not do this with the Mesa OS..i will try but im bit afraid because of the Mesa midrange in that case but lets see!
-
I guess that's what I'm hearing then. It's laser focused and dense with no garbage frequencies. I guess im just so used to hearing nastyness in a lot of profiles that when a profile sounds fatter and more focused it almost sounds scooped haha! I love it with Sean ashes Friedman smallbox DI's as well, just unreal. Can not wait to hear it live. Looking forward to trying the Mesa if and when you put it out!
-
I can underline this, I love the Tonehammer Fredman Marshall Cab, it's by far my favourite cab at the moment (besides pretty much all of the LL cabs). But I also really like the single sm57 Marshall and all of the Hesu cabs!
QuoteFredman micing technic is in general to phase cancel out ugly stuff from 2 mics.
Could you explain that a little bit more in detail? I'm really interested in understanding this technique. How does this phase cancellation work? Why does it only filter out the "ugly" frequencies? -
It may also filter out not only ugly stuff...but also theres no rule..no right or wrong. I use the on axis mic as main mic..but you can also do the other way around. Try a very bright position for the on axis...if there is some fizz - dont care much about that. As soon as you blend the off axis mic..the fizz should go away.Just experiment...to be honest..when i made this cab i was trying this technic the first time on my own ^^...just try and use your ears
-
Phase cancellation IS filtering. Fredman cant filter out the filtering. It gives you two signals where the nulls dont align - so one fills in the gaps of the others.
The reason single mic'ing gets such extreme phase cancellation is bc the speaker cone is so large and every part of it generates sound. Higher frequencies from one part of the cone hit the mic slightly delayed from parts of the cone closer to the mic, and their wavelength is so short they are inverted and cancel.
Multiple mics introduces its own phase issues, so it has to be done carefully. If they are too far apart, the nulls can extend further down the frequency spectrum into the mids.
Off axis mic'ing allows less high frequencies to hit the mic, so it will have more body.
So combing the two you get the full spectrum with hopefully less cancellation or more balanced and weaker cancellation than with a single mic.

Btw...we have a new Endorser
Ralph Santolla (Devils Highway, Ex-Death, Ex-Obituary, Ex-Iced Earth, Ex-Deicide)
-
Ahhh that's sick! I know Ralph, haven't talked to him in years though. I grew up in central Florida in that whole "scene" of Florida death metal ( even took lessons from chuck schuldiner ) and of course everyone around there knows him. Pretty cool dude!
-
Yup. Ralph is a monster player.
-
wow, i just got the herbert, ada mp1, mesa studio pre / engl 920, and the jubilee and I have to say they sound absolutely amazing. i haven't been able to truly dive into the profiles yet, but I was quite taken back by the brutality/clarity of these profiles going through the sounds quickly. also, i was amazed by the cab profiles, i usually bypass the cabs and use ownhammer ir's, but i really liked the bite/clarity your profiles contain. i will certainly be getting a few more. many thanks!!!!!!!

I'm a little confused so please help me out if you can. I have the majority of your packs and am a big fan of your profiles. I thought that the earlier ones that I bought such as the ADA and 6534 packs were not merged profiles as I could have sworn I bought them prior to update 3.0
Did we get an update from you and I'm just not remembering it? I have no problem re-upping for any new versions as you guys work hard and deserve to be compensated but I am just confused as to which of my Tonehammer/Deadlight profiles are merged and which are not. The ADA profiles which were some of the first I bought actually are the merged versions (says so in the 'comments'). Funnily enough my all time favorite ADA profile is your 'ADA MP-1 mod EL34 A' which is a studio profile. -
All of them are merged!
Whats the problem with them?for the confusions...the ones in the ADA pack are 6l6 (EVH Poweramp)..the one studioprofile i once shared was EL34 (6534 poweramp) thats why you maybe dig that one more
