Sorry not sure if this has been covered ..but I was thinking today about whether when profiling you could use say UAD or waves plug ins in the chain (so amp-mic-desk-vst-kemper) to improve the tone captured as you might if you had some high end preamps,Eq's etc ...? Anyone done it before ?
Profiling using VST plugins in the mic chain ?

I've not done any profiling myself but I'm sure some people on here have done profiles with plugins in the chain. I know there is one in the rig exchange regarding waves SSL plugin and it's called bass guitar

I guess how successful it would be would depend on any latency the plugins induce. The profiling process may (or may not) have a time domain response part to it. If it does, the use of plugins might compromise the results. Or might not, hehe

It's totally possible - there are plenty of profiles on the Rig Exchange made from VST amp sims. A small bit of latency like you get with a cabinet impulse will work, but if you go too high I believe the Kemper will just start giving you errors when you try to profile.

Thanks folks ,Latency was my thought as to why it might be problematic ...hmm well I might just give it a try when I get a moment ...
-
hmm, but why should latency be an issue here? I made a few profiles of my line 6 podxt before I sold it. I know it's no software ampsim but still, the results were as expected ... never use those profiles though

The profiler compensates for any latency when profiling. Using VST plugins inside the profiling chain is a lot of fun. I made many real profiles this way. Not in the way of using VST software amps but using plugins between the miked amp and the KPA return.

I've used the 'real-time' plugins on the UA Apollo without any issues, great way to capture some great sounds before the demo's time out..

Ah right thanks I'll definitely try it then ..I wouldn't be using amp sims just EQ's and/or pre-amp style things as you would if recording ...just wasn't sure if the few ms delay would cause a problem ...
Thanks for the replies folks ...now just need Delay available in the stomp section and I'll be in an even better mood
