Also, darker when it comes to just my sound. I'm not in a band. I've been trying to find band members for the last 10 years and have never been in one haha. I also live in LA, but thats a whole other topic.

Jesus, the voice texter on my phone is utter garbage. Sorry just read what I previous "wrote". Anyway, I hear what you're saying with the layering and tracking. I guess maybe what I'm trying to say is that my distortion sound has never really inspired me. I used to have this Eganter Vengeance amp that was an absolute beef kitten but it blew up ever since then, I've struggled with my sound. Maybe I'm just going crazy and complaining now, idk. But thanks for all the suggestions guys ?

And I think I feel that way because every time I use distortion I am unexpired. it's the strangest thing but I have this old DigiTech RP500 pedal And I dialed in this certain clean sound to it, every time I touch a cord I would write something new. I have SD cards with thousands of riffs on them because of that sound. However I've never had that with distortion. It just always sounds too happy to me. So basically I guess my distortion sound doesn't inspire me when I play is maybe what I'm trying to say

I'm scratching my head.
First off, there's not enough information to diagnose your problem, but it is not possible that it is a matter of profile. If only a handful of profiles out there do it for you, "sterile" isn't the right word to be using. I'm not questioning your preferences, but a direct profile sounds exactly like the line out of the amp it profiles., so much so that people regularly fail blind A/B tests. There's probably a million Youtube videos like that.
You then proceed to say you want your guitar to be "dark", and that what you get is a guitar that sounds almost "happy". I read the word "scratchy". Overall I'm not getting a very good idea of what your guitar actually sounds like to begin with, and I'm not really grasping how you would like it to sound. When you say that it sounds "scratchy" and you want it to sound "dark", I'm assuming your guitar is pronounced in the mids, and you want a typical, mid-scooped BBE Sonic Maximizer sound, but without the high end. That is easily EQable, but there are parameters in the amp section that interact with the EQ. Clarity and definition both do something that sounds like EQ. If they are set too high, they will make the profile sound artificial (unnatural). There's also the "Character" parameter in the cabinet section. That too can cause some artifact-like things in your signal if set too high. And then there's the Pure Cab parameter which smoothes out peaks in the frequency spectrum. They all play a role in your tone, and the way you're describing it, it sounds like you should look at those settings and play with those.
What kind of guitar are you playing? And what kind of playback system do you use? FRFR speaker or cab? Monitors? Headphones? I'm just asking to ensure you've ruled out that it's the speaker you're using that is making it sound "sterile". And about the guitar because the "whine" noise you're describing makes no sense, so I'm wondering if you have a hollowbody or an LP and it could be your strings ringing out above the saddle or below the bridge. Either way, that's not something I've never heard anyone say about the Kemper before. Mine definitely has no whining noise on any profile, and I've probably demoed a few hundred profiles. They only ever sounded sterile or unnatural to me when those parameters I mentioned above were set to some out-of-whack value. Imagine if your playback system is bright and the person that made the profile you are demoing used a playback system that had a darker signature. Any settings in the profile would be dialed for that speaker that was darker than yours. Everything would sound brighter on your system. That could be a thing maybe?
I also know some people have reported that they updated their unit, and afterwards it sounded like shit (thin tone, I believe the word "shrill" was used to describe it and I connect that to your "scratchy"), but a factory reset made it sound like normal again. This is more of a long shot than anything else I'm posting, but thought it was worth mentioning. I've heard three or four accounts of people having that happen to them in the FB group.
Like others already pointed out, if you post a clip of what it sounds like on your end, it's way easier to understand what's up and give you the right advice. Also, suggesting a song with a guitar track that has a tone you like would benefit you as well.
Edit: okay, I just kept coming up with more stuff to add, this is my fourth edit lol. Anyway, check this out:

We have provided more information on this in our privacy policy. This video shows you what the Definition parameter does to the signal. At 10, everything sounds a lot more scratchy to me than at, say, 2.
All great stuff, the first thing I discovered with the camper was the definition primitive. It blows my mind how some people have theirs preset at 10, so yes that has been adjusted. I guess I don't really know how to clarify exactly what I am looking to change. I just want my guitar to sound darker and beefier.

Action is actually higher than what's considered normal cause I pick hard. (Have had it professionally set up) and I dont have any recording fear sadly everything just sounds happy. When I play and E note compared to stuff on records that are the same tuning it just sounds kind of lame and Honky. Idk how else to describe it. I could also be crazy.

Sheepfan bear in mind that the guitar tones on recordings rarely sound like what came out the amp while recording.
In metal, the guitars are almost always layered several times and tend to have a lot less bass than you might expect. A lot of the low end that seems to be guitar is often actually the bass. Add to that the EQ and effects added at the desk by the recording engineer and the tones can be significantly different from the amp.
Have you listened to many isolated guitar tracks from classic recordings?
(((((How do the Kemper high gain sounds compare where you put them up against just a single isolated guitar track?)))))
Have you seen Rick Beato’s recent Master of Puppets video where he plays the isolated then doubled Hetfield tracks?
they sound scratchy

And I know that guitar tones on albums are usually far different than what you hear while playing yourself, but how do I get a darker Fuller sound? EQ just doesn't seem to be doing it. That's why I thought maybe a pickup change would be good.
-
I have not, is that episode #66 Metallica #2?
-
Should have clarified, the kemper stock clean sounds and the light distortion ( dirty blues) all sound pretty great, but none of the high gain sounded good. Yes I attempted to make my own to no avail.

Hey guys, so I've been using the Kemper for about 6 months now and the only thing I really have an issue with is that all the rigs seem to sound kind of sterile. I am using the sinmix free pack right now, and while it does sound far better than what came stock (sorry Kemper) I still feel like I can't EQ it enough to get it to sound powerful and not scratchy. Is the paid sinmix pack that much better ? I also have noticed a sort of wine noise whenever I play anything, almost as if my guitar is tuned a little sharp. But it's in 440 and tuning is spot on. Perhaps a pickup change is in order? I'm using a SD JB in the bridge and an alnico 2 in the neck. My guitar just doesn't sound as dark as Guitars on any records really, it almost sounds kind of happy. Maybe I'm going crazy.
Tldr.
Anyone have any experience with the sinmix pack that cost money? Anything better out there?
New pickup suggestions? (Gibson explorer)

Hey hey guys, so I just noticed that my power amp booster setting is set to 6 DB, I never saw that before until just now, reading the manual I'm not really sure what to set it at, considering that it was already set to 6 and this is the first time I'm seeing it should I just leave it at 6? Or should I turn it off?

I have that video and watched it haha. I've seen mesas, Marshal's. VHTs and that's it. Maybe I should try a VHT? I'm not sure what model was in the movie.
-
It just has that perfect blend of sponge and thack. I feel like most amps are leaning towards one a bit much. Hmmmm
-
Does anyone know what amp was used to record sad but true? I know Marshall jcm800 and mesa mark iv were all over the album. But that song in particular doesn't sound like either one to me. Am I way off?

Side note/ question. Does anyone know what amp was used to record sad but true? I know Marshall jcm800 and mesa mark iv were all over the album. But that song in particular doesn't sound like either one to me. Am I way off?

Never heard of the phat cats, I'll have to look Into those. And dear God, I was almost going to comment about fishman fluence pickups. Every video I've heard online they sound flat and thin. Am I crazy? . Granted I've never heard them in person but in every video they're junk. everyone I see online rides their dick now and I just don't understand it .

I wouldn't get rid of current pickups. I guess I'm just looking to see if there's something better out there. I'm constantly unfulfilled
