Buddy Sledge lost his battle with cancer today at a hospice facilty in Houston with his sister by his side. He asked that I pass it along as he greatly enjoyed this group. I met Buddy on this forum. He was very encouraging. We developed a great friendship. It was Buddy that introduced me to his best friend Gary Long at Nomad Studio, Dallas. That led me to Matt Thompson of King Diamond and the legend Michael Harris. Our 2nd album is out soon. None of this would have happened without Buddy pushing me. More importantly I got to know Buddy very well. Buddy lost his wife to cancer a few years ago and handled that with grace. Buddy was one of the best private investigators in Texas. I wish I had time to share the stories....unreal. "This coversation will be recorded for quality assurance"....long story but that became law because of a case that Buddy singlehandedly solved! He lived an incredible life. Catching bad guys during the week and tearing up the stage on the weekends. He shared the stage with Paul Gilbert and Matt Chamberlain. Buddy was very self depreciating but I assure you he was a monster player, especially on the bass. I will miss his late night conversations about music, life and the crazy things he did as a PI. I know he will be missed on the forum. He was always warm and encouraging. His Kemper now resides in Nomad Studio and I look forward to sitting down with Gary Long and going through his sounds. I would encourage all of you, as a tribute to the spirit of Buddy Sledge, to do something you've never done. Take the leap. Record the song. Reach out to other musicians. Collaborate. Buddy would be proud.
All the best,
Nate
