been down far too long, tried every therapy in the book short of an operation and I’m getting nowhere. very frustrating...
right now I’m doing some sort of shockwave therapy which kinda helps but only if I don’t play at all.

Been away myself for two years now, my green box also untouched.
my reason is a wicked case of lateral epicondilytis (aka tennis elbow) in my left elbow. still no fix in sight and it still hurts too much to play at all.

They've gotten plenty of things very right so far. This one just takes a bit longer.
Having worked in a software development team in my previous life (churned out quite a bit of code too), I know that things don't EVER go as planned. Which is why we never announced important features before we were done with internal alpha and beta testing, sooo many things can go wrong at the very last second. And we never had the folk with the pitchforks at the gates, demanding reverbs and dual delays before they could be properly done. 
Don't expect too much and you'll be fine with them.
This is what I've been thinking lately... I'm just seeing it as a practice tool anyways. My playing leaves much to be desired as it is, tone suck is realistically the least of my worries.
Also doing some pre-Trio-purchase thinking, whaddyall think of pushing both Kemper direct out and monitor out into an a/b/y box, outputting into the Trio input? Use the direct out to set up the Trio's band and then switch to monitor out to lay in the loops with full Kemper power? Doesn't help with the tone suck but should clear up any Trio mis-learning issues? Afterwards take both Trio outputs into a mixer and out into a powered system....
Nothing of substance to add right now since I don't own a Trio+.
I am however seriously considering getting one so, apart from being interested in the matter at hand, I'll be hijacking the thread for a few posts to ask whether you've had any issues with Trio+ "recognizing" what you play when connected guitar->Kemper->Trio+?
While I'd probably hook it up just like that for the most part, I have read that Trio has problems detecting what is being played unless the guitar is plugged directly into it? Has this been your experience as well?

From where I'm sitting, not at all. You've provided a lot of great info and also an insight into what it looks like from the other side of the fence, so to speak. Having also started late in life and not gotten very far yet, I'm pretty sure I'll never get to your level of understanding music. Which is why I really appreciate reading thoughts from the people who do. To me, it's pretty much indistinguishable from magic.

likely have an positive impact on the "baked in" Line 6 modeling. I could see using this as either a backup to my Kemper, or as an alternative solution if I ever find myself in need of some of the effects that the Helix offers.
Ditto. I don't have immediate plans for getting a Helix but it's on my very very short list of things to get for a all-in-one, grab'n'go piece of gear and a backup for the Kemper.
Anyone got a gut feeling on the specs vs price aspect? Is this thing a good deal for the price of asking?
Also, any idea how flat it is (Freeplay too)?
Maybe a quick switch to a muted tuner while the switch is pressed?
Or a hold/freeze/sustainer fx?
