And I still stand by what I said, I do not like the Kemper's power amp that's built into the head, its that simple, I probably should have purchased the Stage model instead. What does this have to do with me not liking the Tonex? I like the Kemper and Helix using a real tube poweramp and a real cabinet. I play live, I'm not interested in CAB, IRs, FRFR and playing in front of a PC. The Kemper and Helix sound much better to me then the Tonex when using a real poweramp and real cabinet. Again...what does my comments about the built in power amp have to do with the Tonex?
The power amp in the power head is great, super flat. What goes in goes out.
Display MoreFirst of all I'm not trying to bash the Kemper, I've been using it for years and it's one of my favorite devices. I especially love Rig Manager and how easy the Kemper is to use make Profiles.
I have a Bogner Helios 100 and I have created several Profiles of this amp over the last two years. This amp has never been able to Profile "perfectly". I recently picked up a Tonex Pedal and the Tonex software. I created an Advanced Capture of the Helios and the Capture was closer to the amp than the Kemper Profiles have ever been. Practically indistinguishable from the amp. (hold on to any comments about Kempver vs. Tonex and keep reading)
I tried Profiling the amp three separate times this morning, refining each one and the Kemper never Profiled as close as the Tonex software does.
So... I created a Kemper Profile of the Tonex Capture directly from the Tonex pedal and it is a "perfect" match.
I'm running all of these through the AXE III and I can A/B/C the Profile/AMP/Tonex Pedal all back to back to back via a MIDI pedal and the Profile of the Tonex pedal is just as good as the amp and just as good as the pedal. You cannot tell which one you are playing through.
I also did the exact same experiment with a 2018 BE-100 and it's the same result, the Profiles of the Captures sound more like the amp than the Profiles of the physical amp.
Why would the Kemper be able to Profile the Tonex Captures from the Tonex Pedal more accurately than the physical amp? Digital to digital?
I encourage anyone who has a Tonex Pedal and a Kemper to Profile a few of your Captures directly from the Pedal if you don't believe me.
Very interesting.
Just tried this and the results were very interesting.
For anyone curious, stop by my tech's website to see some of his work.
Let's celebrate Valentines Day with a free profile! Our amp tech has been designing some of his own amps lately, from Fender type and beyond. He let us test out his newest high gain prototype and you can try it here for free!
oh god that be awesome. I have a hard time with the wooliness around a note Di profiling. Surely they can get rid of this. Something new would be exciting
What DI box are you using?
I use spdif to send my guitar input into the digital domain and with the prior setting it worked perfect with no adjustment. If lowered I would have to adjust of every piece software I use.
A soft button really is a good suggestion.

Happy Holidays Everyone!
Just in time for Christmas! Blizzard conditions in the US. Let's all enjoy some new tones! Happy Holidays!
I've done this a bit.
You have to note that when sending a signal into the effects return of an amp there is no attenuation. Meaning the amp will be wide open. You need a device that can lower the signal level enough.

They added new IR cabs. Not much has really changed IMO.
I did hear it in that video clip.
I'm wondering if the Kemper compression varies with different amp profiles (I'm asking as it's not something I immediately noticed when I play my Kemper, although I have heard other people comment on this)? I know amp designs and tube choice ( and speaker design) can add compression to different degrees.
One can see in the wav that without refining or refining incorrectly there can be some compression. When refined well the wav is like the real amp.
