Hello fellow profilers,
I've played hundreds of gigs with my KPA toaster, and I ordered a new Remote when they came out in 2015. By the time the remote arrived, my band had broken up, I had started grad school, and there was no time to start another band. I haven't gigged since. The remote remained sealed in its box, never seeing the light of day for nine years.
Life and work have calmed down a bit, so now I am putting a band together. I updated my Kemper firmware, which required help from Kemper Support, because it was still on 6.0.0 (Support was great!). I uploaded some new profiles and also purchased the Top Jimi 2.0 Brown Sound, which sounds great. Thinking about my rig for future gigs, I decided it was time, finally, to open the dusty box containing the Remote. I had images of bugs or small rodents making a home inside the box and chewing on the buttons, but none of that happened. It was pristine inside, but I was still worried it might not work after all this time.
Well, I connected the remote to the toaster, fired it up, and it works like a charm! Perfect functionality, and it's the ideal footswitch for the KPA. I'm updating the performances now, but I am still using mostly profiles I made of my own amps. Some of the profiles are more than 10 years old!
Here she is right after I opened the crypt, as well as after I connected the (practically vintage) NOS footswitch:
I love the grain of a good BRW neck. They feel so good, too.
I've owed half a dozen of them over the years, but I could never get them to sound good with high gain tones. I tried a bunch of different pickup combinations, as well, and I never liked the results.
They are all in new homes and being appreciated by less head bangy folks.
I'm a hard rock/classic metal guy, but I love listening to Phoebe Bridgers sing anything. I appreciate how she digs the classics:
V8guitar do you choose the axe to match your attire? Do your band-mates have gear color-coordinated to yours?
Such an awesome, crazy cool collection of instruments!
I'm visualizing Kraftwerk!
Sorry to bump a necro thread, but his just happened to me today. Thanks for posting the simple solution.
It really does seem like operator error/inexperience with the KPA. Just because Fortus supposedly "uses modeling technology every day" doesn't mean he has bothered to figure out how to get the KPA to do what he wants. Trying it out "in rehearsal once" kind of speaks for itself as far as the time spent with the profiler.
Also, I would imagine there is some significant pressure inside the band NOT to use any kind of modeler on stage with GnR. It's an image thing. I realize it's just a guess, but knowing all of the old-school mentalities in a band like this, I wouldn't be surprised.
A recurring theme! Welcome back
Indeed, sir. Family and work commitments have been unexpectedly taxing during the past 18 months. But it's good to be back and trying new things with the Kemper again!
After another unexpected hiatus, I have again returned this week. Good to see so many old hands and new faces here.
Rock on!
This is why I'm an unabashed toady.
I've bought 5 PRS without having played them first. No fear. The other three took seconds to decide after playing them.
Pretty hard to beat.
Same here. I purchased all of these (and a dozen more) online. Sorry for the bad quality photo. They were all great players:
If you watch the lastest MBritt video called "MBritt's Kemper profiling secrets" you can clearly hear differences between the Kemper and the real amp (listening with APS Klasik 2020 studio monitors). Don't get me wrong please, it's not night and day!! Maybe Kemper even sounds better. But if you focus on "authenticity" it is not 99 % and only 1 % missing here. Mr. Britt himself is hearing it and calling it mid hump. That is what some people mean, when they talk about recognizing the Kemper because of some TS like sound.
So it seems that even Mr. Britt has to improve on refining than?
I saw/heard the same thing and it had me scratching my head. I have played quite a few MBritt profiles, and I like them, so he's definitely got an ear for tone. So, I guess our ears are sensitive to different things, which is fine.
I profiled a dozen of my boutique amps when I got my first KPA, and I would swear my profiles were much closer to the original amps than some of what I saw on that video. But maybe others might hear differences that escape my ears, just as I did on the MBritt video.
Smartphone.
But someday I'll build a proper DAW
Display More...I also bought the HR 108 to use upstairs - due to size, weight and no fan.
It’s good in that role.
BUT.... there is no way it can compete with the Yamaha’s 10” driver for overall sound/authenticity of the modeled cabinet and tone.. In my opinion (yes, opinion), the DXR is a far better sounding speaker with better realism, balance and ability to handle louder volumes as well.
I also found the 108’s bass response to be very “spikey”.
I like the 108 for $199, but to me, that’s all it’s worth. $199.... it’s $199 well spent, but it’s no DXR10. Not by a long shot. (That said, I can see it as a good option for a monitor speaker...)

Wow, that's not been my experience. Having gigged the DXR10, I was pleasantly surprised by the Headrush 108s. They sound better as studio monitors and as a FRFR speaker for the Kemper than my Yamahas ever did. Much flatter and fuller. I'm hugely impressed.
YMMV, of course.
