Cannot locate "duplicate" presets

  • The Profiler Model referred to in this thread is ...
    ☑️ Profiler Head/Rack

Went to back up my presets today. RM reports 967 presets. It will only back up 838 of them, claiming there are duplicates.

This might be the case, but how do I find out which ones are duplicates of each other? My concern is that I will be looking for something with a specific name and it will be gone but I don't understand why (when in fact it is probably named something else, the duplicate).

I thought to try to export to files but the Profiler will not export the duplicates this way either, I only get 838 of them.

I'm going to start "cleaning house" but in the meantime it would be nice to know how to understand what ones are duplicates of something else. Comparing over 900 items two at a time will take some time.

  • GuyWithKemper mentioned this as a bug here - After 15 years, Rig Manager is still a complete mess.

I haven't compared numbers in the Rig Manger and in the export. I simply believe the Rig Manager that it backup properly all.

taylorphototexas One Idea: export them all, import them to another folder, open original location side by side, sort them in the same way an you should see where they differ.

It won't export the duplicates. It does not appear to be only ones with the same name. Again this is presets (cabs) not rigs.

  • I do not understand how you arrive at this point!?

This is about cabinet presets, ok.

Are these cabinet presets located in your Local Library or in your PROFILER?

Are you using the true Rig Manager backup function or the export function?

If you export, is the destination you chose empty? Perhaps some of these presets were already present in the destination.

Since you cannot export from multiple source locations in one go, but only from one, I'm wondering how duplicates could exist in that source location. Is it possible that preset files were renamed on a computer, which doesn't change their embedded preset name. So these might look different in Windows/macOS, but are actually the same for the PROFILER.

  • Your confusion is also my confusion. They are coming out of the Profiler's Preset section, saving them directly to a newly created folder (literally creating it before I complete the save dialog). I managed yesterday by saving various subsets to isolate the duplicates. I have a lot of cabs (680); and since I was sorting by the Preset Class (since this does not work with filter *ahem*) I could not effectively sort by name. Long story short I was able to locate and eliminate the dupes by saving them like 5 at a time and then I knew one of the dupes was in that group of 5. After two hours the dupes are gone. But yes the dupes were ON the Profiler (Mark 2, see below). I'm not even sure how I got duplicates in the first place. What I did find out though is that I can save the same cab with the same name as many times as I want - not to my PC, not to a folder, but on the Profiler front panel, yes.

Sometimes I make "backups" by copying them to a local library folder in RM. Seems odd that I would be allowed to have two of the same on the Profiler but the copy to the local library fails. In any case I know how to fix it now.

How does your list look like, if you add the column Creation Date?
