After 15 years, Rig Manager is still a complete mess.

    Sorry for the rant, but this morning was the last straw.

    I’ve owned a Kemper Head, two Kemper Stages, Kemper Player and now Stage mkII.

    I’ve been a loyal customer for years, and yet I still can’t understand how Rig Manager can be this unreliable after all this time.

    Today I wasted another two hours trying to create profiles, and once again the software behaved completely unpredictably.

    When I load a reference profile and then save the new one, I have absolutely no idea what Rig Manager is actually saving. Is it saving the original profile? The new profile? Something else entirely? There is no confidence in what the software is doing.

    It randomly duplicates profile names, assigns the wrong names to other profiles, mixes things up, and generally behaves as if it has a mind of its own. Every profiling session becomes a stressful exercise because I can’t trust that what I see is what will actually be saved.

    This isn’t about learning how to use the software. I’ve been using Kemper products for years. This is about a piece of software that still feels unfinished and unpredictable after more than a decade.

    The profiler itself is brilliant. The sound is amazing. But Rig Manager is honestly one of the worst pieces of software I’ve ever had to rely on. It’s embarrassing that after 15 years we’re still dealing with problems like these.

    Please, stop adding new features for a while and focus on making the software reliable. Users need to be able to trust what happens when they click Save.

    At this point, I have completely lost confidence in Rig Manager.

    Since the update v14 i have the same bugs.
    I set up a setlist and always copy my own base rig to the slot.
    Sometimes the name is the old one, after switching the rig. sometimes Profiler is correct, but rig manager is wrong.
    Last time both are ok, then after reboot the names were wrong, old. Some slots are without effects.
    Totally worse... working with rig manager is really disappointing.

    Every Rigmanager update i hope to get a software which feels like > 2012.. but it's still the buggy non functional software.
    Caused by this topic i found your post. i'm on about to get a different brand. Just to have a consistent hardware and software.

    Nope iOS is pretty good but comes no where near the functionality of Mac Rig manager.

    For my simple needs IOS is enough for me except for two glaring problems, rig navigation and access to the system menu.

    I totally agree, been using the Kemper rack since 2016 also now have the player, I use all the performances and slots,they are changed from my PC via midi during live shows, it has always had problems especially with writing over performances and storing them in the wrong place , it seems with every new version of R.M. they solve one problem and create another, each release changing the main volume output with no information indicated with the update, after upgrading to the latest version when editing a performance slot then saving it it now seems to have a different process than before and often writes over an adjacent patch, I'm so tired of working with the rig manager and spending hours creating specific performances to find they randomly get wiped out and yes I backup my setup but it's ridiculous how many backups I create as each edit and save is a risk.

    I think Kemper need to get serious about this ,as a person who makes his living from playing live they should not be releasing such a buggy piece of software, I will now go back to the 13.1 OS and earlier rig manager version until it gets finally sorted out.

    I hesitate to write this, but here we go.

    Rig Manager needs a dramatic overhaul of the UI and functions. My frustration is with performance mode. It's so easy to overwrite a performance slot and then there is no going back once you do. I also think the way they handle presets, pedals, etc. needs to be redone.

    One note: it should not matter what platform. If you release software to support your products, it should work. Period. Otherwise, don't release it. I'm tired of hearing "well it's better on a Mac" - then go fix the one on Windows.

    When I read users on this forum in 2026 having to update software with a USB stick on a brand new Player, it's embarrassing.

    When I read users saying for months they have critical issues in Rig Manager only to be told by Kemper "just go back to 13 for now", it's embarrassing. You released the software back in March. And by going back to 13, now I cannot get to the 2.0 profiles.

    I believe with MK2, 2.0 profiles, and OS14 Kemper has a real decision to make - are you a serious company that wants to continue to move forward, or are you happy with the way things are?

    00diablo00 — I can relate. I love the device and the sound, same as you, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't nervous every time I work with Rig Manager.

    I've learned to restart RM frequently when saving to the device, and I stick to release versions only — that helps, but it shouldn't be necessary.

    All I'd really wish for is a Rig Manager that's simply stable and predictable. The hardware deserves it.

    I'm using three Kemperr Profilers with three computers, sometimes two of them are connected to same computer. I had some syncing issues with the first beta where new profiling was introduced. I cleaned the old drivers manually and initialised the mk1 profilers. After that zero prolems or crashes. I have installed all the RM versions and Firmware versions without issues. I only use Win 11 home and Pro.

    mattim Glad to hear it. I have just a small Player for about a year and a half and my experience is similar — it's stable until I start editing and copying rigs in Rig Manager. Restarting RM frequently is the workaround I've been using.

    It's good to hear positive experiences too — it helps to get the full picture.

    Now you guys are freaking me out . I start building my new show tomorrow. Hopefully I will have nothing to report. I save old shows to a stick then delete them out of the performnces. I have a folder on the stick with all the songs in it and drag them out of a second window into the performance slots. Each song gets its own slot so I usually have three performances for a 12 song set. Four sets so twelve performances per show. Many of the songs are the same rigs but set up with different verb, delay, gain, and boost for the specific song.

    For a convenience I sold my Kemper rack and bought the Kemper Player.

    Sometimes had problems with overwriting the first rig on the first bank or in other words the last rig activated with the first rig selected in rig manager. Seems to be solved by now, though my trust in RM is not at its best.

    UPDATE : i had another session, and it went incredibly well.

    BUT

    I tried to be obsessive doing the things every time in the SAME EXACT way.

    New profile > Adjust level > Start Profiling > Listen and save in Local library > Rename > START AGAIN

    as i read, restarting Rig Manager is a way to keep it stable sometimes, but i really hope the whole software will be revamped sometime to get it to 2026 and compete with other similar piece of software on equal terms
