any good Alan Holdsworth lead rigs?

  • I don't think I heard anything that great.

Some people disagree. Van Halen had previously enthused about Holdsworth in a 1980 issue of Guitar Player magazine, saying "That guy is bad! He's fantastic; I love him", and that Holdsworth was "the best, in my book".[14] Furthermore, in a 1981 interview for Guitar World magazine, he said that "To me Allan Holdsworth is number one".[15] (wikipedia)

nothing I found on rig exchange sounds anything like holdsworth.

Allan used al lot of different gear over the years, but always sounded like Allan.

Use a guitar with a humbucker, take any distorted rig, cut the highs and boost some mids to get into the right direction.

Not quite, the delays are super super important. When I had a fractal fm3, I had a couple really great Holdsworth patches, but I no longer have it so I don't know or remember how to set the delay up but I think it was something like an eight tap delay

  • Just use a H&K Switchblade profile, a parametric EQ, a boost pedal, and a lush reverb so your guitar sounds close to a synth sound, and you've nailed it.

not quite. He didn't even use reverb. In the fractal preset that sounded very close, the amp was a dual rectifier.

I used that setup for this clip

but the delay the most important

Wasn't contesting that he is great. Was hoping for suggestions of his playing that would demonstrate his greatness

  • Okay listened quite a few times on repeat out shopping today. Undeniable vituosity.

Thought I had the meter figured out at 6 something or 12 something turned out its 4/4.

Outside of a dreary theme at the beginning and later, and having misplaced my doctorate in symmetrical and micro tonal scales I couldn't really identify anything approaching melody. Admitting my short stature and great heights not required to be way over my head. Is this Ornette Coleman on guitar?

  • I had never heard of him until recently and listened to a few tracks on spotify. I don't think I heard anything that great. What songs are the best example of why he is highly regarded?
