NAM 2 Compatibility

    Love my kemper but my Personal opinion, if they don't implement nam a2 as an Option, they are out of the game. Since mk2 it is silent, no Updates etc. Maybe they lost there train

    I’ll be more than totally shocked if this ever happens. NAM captures require modern generic processors. kemper uses old audio specific processors. The two just aren’t compatible. Kemper would presumably need to completely replace the existing hardware and convert all their current code to run on totally different chips. Would you be happy to need to buy a new Kemper MK3 just to play NAM when you could just add a cheap NAM player to the existing Kemper system instead.

    Kemper are smart folk and have managed to keep moving the KPA forward for 15 years. They are obviously aware of NAM and it’s potential impact so must have developed a strategy. I’ll be interested to see what it looks like over time.

    On the topic of using a separate NAM player, profiler/modeler manufacturers need to implement a digital ins and outs (and standardize on the format) to their devices to allow for multiple digital devices without the added latency of multiple conversions.

    I wish this was the case. There is SPDIF which avoids is digital and avoids some conversions but it doesn't eliminate latency and for some devices has higher latency than an analog loop.

    IMO, the current Profilers (even markII) will not be able to read NAM one day... Maybe a K2 ?! :D;)

    But is this really necessary ? I see more and more devices that were able to modele amps, that are able to clone amps too (MOOER, Headrush, QC, Hotone, etc), (seems that Kemper was right ;):thumbup:) and now they purpose in addition NAM.... I would be really curious to know how many users play with all the capabilities of these devices. Who have built their presets with one modeling amp and the next one with a NAM and a clone at the end !? :/=O

    I had a helix before and was not entirely satisfied with the amp/cab's sound. Kemper was totally different in this game instantly <3. Doesn't mean i'm gonna disparate modelers owners... Every one has to find the device he likes. But it's an entire different philosophy (even if NAM and Profiles are closed).

    In my opinion, the main problem (for Fractal, QC, Fender TMP and Helix stadium too) is going to maintain and justify the price tag....

    The minimum specs for NAM A2 to run is on a ARM Cortex M7 SoC according to the Tone3000 website.

    Since the Kemper Mk2 has the ARM Cortex M4 SoC which is less powerful than the M7 I doubt you will be seeing NAM A2 any time soon on Kemper unless they can squeeze that kind of power out of the M4 which is to be noted also runs the OS...

    There are a few native nam playing pedals yes. Dime is one of them. Even does two captures in series.

    I wonder if it would be possible perhaps possible to build a NAM to Kemper converter. I know sometimes taking a profile of a modeler doesn't give good result, but perhaps NAM A2 profiled by Kemper V2 could give good results ? (yes i know, what am i waiting to try)

    I’m not sure I’m following you. Analog doesn’t have latency, so any digital will have more latency than analog. But you can cut down on the amount of latency in a digital signal chain by reducing the number of analog to digital (ADC) and digital to analog (DAC) conversions within the chain, down to ideally just the initial ADC at the beginning of the chain and the final DAC at the end of the chain. But even then you’ll still have the latency from the ADC, the processing, and the DAC.
