Anyone staying with OS13? (for now)

  • The Profiler Model referred to in this thread is ...
    ☑️ Profiler Stage

Firstly, and again, thread applies to all models (admins- when will you let us select "all models"?)

Who has no intention (for the time being) to upgrade from OS13 to OS14, whether your unit benefits from v2 profiles or not?

I have a few Kemper units, one of which is the old hardware and therefore not capable of v2 profiles and i like to keep all my units on the same OS for migrating rigs between them.
Other than the new v2 profiles, of which there are few as we are in the early days, i am not aware of any significant benefits and more than happy with my v1 tones.

I notice theres still a few little bugs still being squashed with the new OS14 so even more reason (in my opinion) to keep on OS13 until things settle down especially relying on my Kemper in a professional situation.

Be interested to hear from anyone with similar thoughts or perhaps anyone who thought similar but has changed their mind.

  • I have a classic (is that what we should call it now?) head, and a MK2. The Mk2 I am going to continue updating. I am super interested to see how things progress with the new IR handling and 2.0 profiling. I make pickups, so having that extra clarity and dynamics for raw demos will be a welcome upgrade.

That being said, I don't think I will ever upgrade my original "classic" profiler beyond OS13. Even when bugs get ironed out, I don't see the point. I am guessing things have been taken about as far as they are meaningfully going to be taken on that platform. And it's still really good as it is. I haven't come across any issues on OS13 on my classic profiler. I plan to leave it how it is for as long as I can.

  • thanks for the comments, everyone. interesting to read individuals thoughts and experiences.

also be interested to know in what capacity you use your units (ie, home/studio/live/etc) and what, it any, back-up plan you have for your situation (ie when gigging a new OS do you have a contingency plan if there are issues or perhaps you keep previous OS versions to fall back on)

  • I have a Mk1 rack and remote. Use it for live performance, very little recording (and that’s mostly band demos). I’ve yet to hear or read anything that makes Mk2 or OS14 a necessity, and plenty of issues seem to come with OS14. The v2 Profiles don’t sound that hugely different to warrant a $1,600 upgrade, and the few add’l “features”‘of the Mk2 aren’t worth it for me. I have a great set of profiles and performances I’ve developed over the years, most of them purchased (Britt, Figg), so I’m happily covered.

If Kemper releases some really good new features that help me in live performance I’d be in quickly.

  • 14 is the first version where I'm reconsidering approach staying on the latest stable version.

It seems to me that it's just because there were some trade-offs on the background when profiling 2.0 has been introduced.

The reality is I have enable beta versions because I'm keen to try new things. Even if I have rigs for a few lifetimes to explore. It's just a way it is.

And, I haven't spotted any sound issues with 14 personally.

  • I have a Toaster and remote (mk1), Stage (mk1) and a bunch of Players (mk2). I've kept all my devices except for one Player at OS13. I tried updating my Stage right before a new series of gigs and discovered there were critical known issues with the release version that I couldn't live with at the time, ie the Wah/volume pedal bug. That seems to be corrected with the latest release, but it has made my wary that there might be other issues I'm not aware of. I used to trust the official releases, but this one experience with such a vital function (for me) put me off updating until I'm certain I won't run into any more problems. I rely on my Kempers for work and I still hope to get everything updated soon, including the Mk1 units.

  • I have 1 rack Mk1, 1 player and a new ( YES!) stage MK2...

I have upgraded to OS 14 for all of them and no major issues. Conversely I've not explored the benefits of v2 profiles yet, but I tend to update to major versions as and when they come out.

I realise many people have had issues and TBH I think whenever there is a major change ( which OS14 is) there will be bugs but they seem to be getting resolved quickly so the risk is low as more versions are released.

  • I’m staying on 13. I use it professionally, meaning the performances are all done and calibrated. I don’t switch out sounds or profiles «just because»… And having a mk1 there isn’t a big incentive for me risk upgrading either I think, as I don’t profile amps. So the 2.0 doesn’t give me anything either way. So I’ll just leave it be. 🤷‍♂️

  • Well my Mk1 unit will stay on the studio and remain on 8.6.

And for now my Mk 2 will stay on 13.0. It works and the reports i’ve read here that 14 changes the sound of v1 profiles.

I have too many gigs to risk messing up anything.

And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make.
