Can I do this with a Player?

    ☑️ Profiler Player

    Hey guys,

I've been playing Kemper for almost ten years, mainly a Stage for the last 4-5 years, both studio and live, and it's all I'll ever need. However for some fly gigs or remote studio sessions it would be ideal if I could use a Player and bring my tones in an even smaller package. But before I buy one to try things out, only to have to return it and condemning it to a B-stock item, I'd like to ask you guys if the following setup is possible with the Player.

My rigs aren't really all that complex I think; on the Stage I basically only use one Performance with a clean rig, a drive rig and a lead rig. I use morph on all of these three rigs, only for a 3 dB boost in output level (amp volume parameter) for solo's. I use a spring reverb on all three rigs and a tremolo and chorus on the clean and drive rigs. I have a delay programmed on all three rigs but rarely use it tbh so I could part with that on the Player.

Now, could I replicate this on the Player? After spitting through the manual I can understand that I can add the three rigs to the first bank, but would it be possible to engage and disengage the tremolo and chorus on the clean and drive rigs with only three foot switches, while also maintaining the 3 dB morph boost for each rig and the ability to quickly navigate through rigs mid-song? Some songs require all thee rigs plus effect switching. Any help would be very much appreciated; I can also completely understand if this is not possible on such a compact device, but it would be great if I could get it to work without having to make a dozen rigs spread through multiple banks.

    Thanks guys! :)

  • There is no locking on the player which it sounds like you might want to keep some of the effects the same across the presets in the "performance".

You can have up to 5 actions on the footswitches (three single and two where you press two buttons together) ... but there are some limitations as to what you can assign (that I don't think will get in your way).

You can add an external footswitch for two more buttons (would be nice if that was three with a combo press that some three footswitch devices emulate on the 3rd button) at the expense of the expression pedal. You can always add a midi controller.

  • The Player seems to match your needs !

    The only questions would be ;

Do you switch on/off more than one/many effect seperatly per rig ? Do you use a volume pedal ? Do you use a pedal for morphing or the switch ? (Don't you know you can use the volume pedal parameter to behaves as a booster and place it where you want in the chain for all your rigs) ;)

IMO, you could have the following configuration :

    - Left and Right switch to go up/down

    - middle switch to enable/disable one/some effects

    - Pedal for morphing/boost

IMO, two buttons together is too complicated if you want a quick action....

And the irony is that when you configure two button actions, Kemper takes longer to act on single button presses. For most use cases this is irrelevant, but some that extra delay can be the wrong choice (looper, I'm looking at you).

  • Adding a small and cheap Mvave Chocolate Plus midi controller will give you everything you need.

You could have your 3 rigs on the Player switches, and use the 4 on the Chocolate to assign effects and the morph. Plus you would still have another 4 functions with the hold ( Tuner, freeze etc)

You wouldn't need the combo switches so you can avoid the lag thing mentioned by "quemper"

And a expression pedal is a nice bonus.

Paint Audio MIDI Captain Nano is also fairly cheap and has a display that shows you the name of the Rig and the status of the fx. Plus it gets power and midi directly from the USB of the Player

If something is too complicated, then you need to learn it better

Nice. Its about twice the price, but yes, its fairly cheap. The display is a very cool feature though. The Chocolate also gets its power from the KPP.

Damn it. Now I want one.

Damn. Shipping is nearly as much as the item. Total $ 137

Total for the Chocolate with free shipping $30

    Moving on....:)
