Recording 3 tracks: DI + Stack + FX on KPA Rack using USB

  • The Profiler Model referred to in this thread is ...
    ☑️ Profiler Head/Rack

Is it possible to record 3 tracks at once DI + Stack (no FX) + FX (like delay+reverb) on KPA Rack MK1 using USB connection only (without interface)? I bought KPA Rack for recording purposes and i find it very funny and tragic that only Stage and Player which I found less usable when i did my reaserch have this ability probably.

  • As far as I understand i cannot even record the Stack or DI + STEREO FX at once? Its useless gear for recordings...

If you really want to get into professional recording then a single DI is all that is required. Engineers will use their own effects when mixing. Say you like a Reverb on your guitar and record with it. If the Engineer wants to place a global reverb on a mix then your reverb will get washed out and muddy the sound. The engineer can taylor the global reverb to each specific track keeping the mix fluid and consistent.

Facts! but also not all that applicable to a generic home studio situation. Unless of course the home studio is run by a person who subscribes to this philosophy. I don't think the OP mentioned "professional".

I don't remember who but a pro engineer said many guitar solo have been recorded with pedals. Maybe more in the past and there were no DI's or reamping possible. If you know what you're doing....Just do it. If you never want to take a chance and learn something, do everything after. You'll hear many amateurs say the same thing about recording vocals on music forums "don't record with compression". You won't be able to change after it's done if you're not satisfied with the result. Compress afterwards. And pro vocals are usually recorded with at least some compression on.

I figure the goal of every guitarist who wants to record is to be a professional at it. I mean... who wants to be mediocre? And you can even say. "Hey, he owns a Kemper! He must be a pro!" ;)

With a MK2 version, a Player or a Stage you definitely can record DI+Stack+Stereo FX simultaneously. I still use a stand alone interface rather than the Kemper USB but that’s nothing to do with not being able to do what you described.
