Very new to Kemper and I have questions about using it

  • The Profiler Model referred to in this thread is ...
    ☑️ Profiler Stage

So i just got my stage MKII and i feel like i'm a little in over my head. I was never even really a pedal guy, and was always a tube amp with a minimal setup- delay reverb boost... that sort of thing.

I got the stage because i cant really crank my tube amps with an 18 month old running around so they kind of just collect dust and my attenuator only helps so much.

Now, im not really intending to use it like most people probably do- I dont really gig so i dont need to set up performances for specific songs or anything like that. My original intention was to profile my own amps, and have my "performances" be all of my amps and the rigs be every individual channel of those amps.

    So something like this

Perfornance 1: Mesa JP2C-- Rig1 Clean rig 2 crunch 3 high gain 4 high gain reverb delay

Performance 2 Silver Jubilee- 1 clean 2 clean breakup 3 high gain 4 high gain reverb delay

...and so on until all my amps are profiled and i have my entire amp wall is done. Is this logical?

Also, are there places i can go to download rigs like this already set up? I know there are plenty of rigs already made, but alot of them already have crazy effects and stuff baked into them and i dont want to mess with all that.

Sorry if this makes no sense, i have no idea what im doing lol

  • Please use rig Manager on your PC. Connect your Stage via an usb cable.

You will found a folder in rig Manager called Rig Exchange.

You search there for your amps. Klick on an entry and You can prehear the rig on your Stage.

Disabling effects is easy in the Effekt row. So you hear only amp and box.

Kemper Profiler Player with Power Cabinet

  • Never had the stage but it should work the same as the toaster head in this case. Load a single profile (anyone) from RM, then turn off all the fx blocks and lock them. This was every profile you load in going forward will only load the amp and cab, so you can audition just the amps in every rig. If you want to add a little room verb for auditioning, you can simply set a reverb you like in one of the end blocks and lock it on in the same way.

  • In RM you will also have access to Kemper Packs, a collection of free professionally-made rigs. There are videos on Kemper's YT channel where you can hear those rigs used as they were intended.

My first advise tho would be to learn your unit (see the Main manual, you can d/l it from Kemper webpage) inside out: your use experience will be much more rewarding, your frustration way reduced.

Still chasing a worthy one :/

  • To make the transition easier I think you'll do well to initially just choose a set of Stomps and Effects that you like and lock them so they're all the same across your performances. So switching to a different one just changes the amp and it's settings. This is conceptually the most like a traditional amp + pedals.

Then assign the effects to buttons on the Stage so you can enable and disable them as needed.

Once you're really comfortable with it all you might want to unlock them so you can tweak them per performance slot with tailored effects settings.

  • Now, im not really intending to use it like most people probably do- I dont really gig so i dont need to set up performances for specific songs or anything like that. That makes perfect sens. I, and a lot of us, work this way. I used to have many amps per preset with my previous unit but i've realized that it can be disturbing (for the band and the crowd) to have different combos during the same song (above all, a different speaker sim). It's also easier to find your way around when the presets are set up in the same way.

  • Also, are there places i can go to download rigs like this already set up? I know there are plenty of rigs already made, but alot of them already have crazy effects and stuff baked into them and i dont want to mess with all that.

    Welcome! :)

While there most likely will already be rigs with PROFILEs from these amps, every PROFILE will be different since the amps were set differently and the analog counterparts also have subtle differences. The connected speaker, the microphone used and the position of the microphone perhaps most of all will also have a great impact on the resulting PROFILE.

So it might indeed be a good idea to PROFILE your own amps (and cabinets), but maybe do that once you have familiarized with the PROFILER a bit more.

For example, the effects are not 'baked-in' at all and can simply be deactivated by selecting their respective buttons and then pressing the same button again to switch the effect OFF (if it was ON in the first place).

Once you have deactivated all effects, you can then lock their state, so that browsing through the factory content will give you just the pure amp sound.
(although a subtle room reverb might be nice to have -> use the Easy Reverb for a great sounding and quick to set up bit of room)

Changed the title of the thread from “Very new to kemper and i have questions about using it” to “Very new to Kemper and i have questions about using it”.
  • #1 Download Rig Manager app to computer , tablet , or phone.

#2 Connect device to Stage Profiler with usb . Turn on Stage Profiler. Push browse button on Stage. Connect headphones to Stage. Open Rig Manager.

    # 3 Go to All Rigs folder. Go to Rig Packs folder. Go to Michael Britt folder.

#4 Double click on anything to preview a rig. There are enough great profiles in that profile to keep you busy for a year.

The profiling process is loud. Very Loud. Recommend you use ear protection loud. And the best profiles by the best profilers in the world are available in the Rig Pack folder. For free.

The rigs are ready to go. I mean straight to the stage ready to go. You can edit them . Add effects. Great starting point for beginner (like myself). You have a resource that shows you how the best in the world do it. Use it.
