    Hi all

My Kemper Player has a fault - it regularly fails to start. It gets to the final blue blinking light and then doesn't get any further (see video at attached link). I can fix the problem by reloading the kaos.bin (operating system) file from a flash drive, but then it happens again after a few successful restarts.

Has anyone else experienced this problem?

And if so, was it connected to eg a USB midi device, a third party power supply, etc?

  • I use the player to power a midi device (Luminite graviton m2) via usb and sometimes the player fails to fully boot up and I have to unplug the player and plug it in again. I think the issue has something to do with the power draw from the midi device. I haven't had the issue letting the player boot up first then connecting it, but I usually have everything connected when I turn it on, so I don't have a good sample size to say it isn't the kemper.

  • If I had to guess - you are using a different power supply (from what came with the Player) that cannot send enough power. Assuming this is the case:

You need something with a lot of juice; around 2 amps of power (see the manual or website). I already had a DC7 from Cioks and paired it with the Cioks Crux to supply my Player.

Most power supplies aren't able to send enough power with one line. I've seen people use the Cioks SOL with a 4-1 combining cable to get to the power requirements.

Again - follow the requirements from Kemper and double check that your supply can handle it.

  • I think Kemper's USB port is not designed to put out any current, doing so may result in malfunction, but ultimately even in some failure. I'd ask Kemper Support to be sure.

Well, for what it's worth I've used it to power a midi device for a dozen gigs and haven't had a problem beyond the intermittent initial startup issue.
